Title: jumping the starter motor
Post by: whit on 07 October 2010, 19:48
can jumping the starter motor direct from the battery potentially cause any damage to anything? (apart from the sparks flying around!! LOL)

for the last 3 months almost every afternoon (99%) after work my car doesn't try and start due to a suspected dodgy ignition switch, therefore i've been jumping the starter almost on a daily basis.

just wondering if i'm causing any damage to any components or shortening the life of the starter or anything?

i'm just too tight to pay out to get it sorted when i can start it like this in 1 minute.

Wouldn't have thought so as the starter motor gets 12v directly from the battery anyway.

As long as you don't accidently touch the metal.
