Title: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 16:38
someone pls move this if it isnt in the right thread...

bought gti interior off fleabay, not picking up until tomorrow, BUT i didnt realise, bein a thick t**t, that gti's had electric windows, wheras mine doesnt, so nowhere for the window winders to go lol.

option 1 - make holes and do it with window winders
option 2 - change to electric windows

im guessing option 1 is gonna be easier? or if option 2 isnt too hard or expensive i may do that... any help guyssssss!?

Option one would be a doddle and you can look into option two later if you want....  depends if you go for original wndow kit or aftermarket which is easier IMO as they use the existing mechanism.

Just go for option 1 as it would take about 4 minutes and then look into option 2 later. So, pretty much what soundnillusion said.

Hmmm its a toughie, think i would root for option 2 but if you want a quick fix then 1 is for you!
I'm a bit of a pervert for things looking tidy, but when you get leccy windows you have to replace them again to get rid of the holes!
That is if you ever want leccy windows

if you change to electric windows you will need to fit the mechanisms as well which could be expensive, and although not done it myself i'd imagine it to be a bit of a mission

A majority of door cards no matter what spec have push out or at least markings on the back where the winders go so it would be very easy to fit your old winders and just swap the handles over for your old ones

Just drill an adequate hole for the winders and use your handle covers. Will look exactly the same.

If you're near I'll do it to for you.

Meh Derby's miles.

Where the electrical window switches are if it has them, pull that away. That will pull off, couple of screws underneath, possibly have to take the speakers out, I can't remember. Unscrew the lock pull's and then pull the door card from the bottom then eventually up a little and it should come off.

He was banned from the forum  For being an epic failure really. I REALLY can't remember the real reason, I've got the memory of a gold fish. All I can remember is de-icer to cure squeaky alternator belt

Time flies then........

Don't think it was though.

OH MY DAYS I WAS 15 WHEN I JOINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow where has that time gone?
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 23:13
Well, forgive me if I'm wrong, I admit when I am, but isn't de-icer for 'de-icing' things!? Not for curing squeaks!? Obvious. Stated. Don't think ill be taking that tip!! Did sum1 actually do it?? And what would happen if they did!? C, innocent ppl like me would not know these things and would read it thinkin other ppl were tryin to help, although I would always ask the father neway, cos I am a girl & therefore I am rubbish :D x
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: Khare on 07 October 2010, 23:15
Yeah, even you can work out that de-icer is to de-ice things, like ice! NOT alternator belts  No one did it thankfully. It probably would quieten the belt as it lubes it, but I doubt it would last very long after that

Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 23:20
Back on topic!! Cheers sweetie! Errrrrm well at th mo,got a lot of other things that NEED doin such as rusty panels, which need replacing,so gonna get those done first,if I make the holes for the winders and decided to go electric later on,I can just change the handles back, sort the loom out and put some plug things in the winder holes?? Good or bad idea lol...

It worked actually b!tch.

Was as quite as a mouse after that.

DISCLAIMER: DON'T EVER f**kING TRY IT. Thoughts of "mate said that it had some sh!t in in that worked" well it didn't.

Converting to lezzy windows can't be that expensive. You can buy both regulators and motors for about £50 or less (I got driver's side for £20, it just depends how hard you look and who you talk to). Then the switches you can buy for a tenner or so from ebay, or nick them from the scrapyard, and finally the wiring, I'm sure that it's not a massive job doing it, can't comment on how to or the depth of the job as I've never done it but surely it's just a few wires.
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 23:28
Yeah I know, but me being me thought the door cards would just fit straight in,not realising... And thought it would be a bargain to get gti seats in good condition no rips or tears, for 30quid... And now whack another 50 on top and that's two decent rust free wings that I actually need... The leccy windows can wait for now me thinks!! Unless I can get them literally dirt cheap, will keep lookin! X
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: Khare on 07 October 2010, 23:30
It's just that I don't think it would look nice having 2 blanks where the winders would go when you do eventually convert to electric windows.

i will wear my star with pride:)lol, you seem more into cars than most ppl on here tbh,i thought it was girls that b!tched and boys and there cars, other way round on here, lol, and btw its the 2x door looms,2x window mechs and motors, and the switches, easy job really, and actually i do have a passenger window mech and motor in the shed lol

Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 23:33
It'll be fine for me hun!! Will annoy me more havin interior sat in my bedroom for 3weeks while my dad gets off his lazy ass to help me sort door cards and looms out,cos I dunno how to do it... All for the sake of a blank :) I don't mind hun! And if we jus drill as little as we need for the winders, with the plugs in after it won't look so bad :)
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: Bellend on 07 October 2010, 23:33
You lot do realize that the car will need a dash loom too, right?

I converted my 5 door then ripped it all out and have got to do it on the three.

Post by: TalisaJade on 07 October 2010, 23:36
Yep I knew that too,so that would be another job. Then if I had leccy windows I'd want leccy mirrors... Not bothered at all about havin leccy, jus wasn't sure if it was only option, but no you hjave all helped me I have decided... Will do b4 & after pics... Will b fine! Chillllllllllll :D
Title: Re: tricky one! help pls!
Post by: Bellend on 07 October 2010, 23:39
Not a hard job, just an annoying job.

If you've got windows, mirrors are no extra work really.
