Post by: Rob on 17 August 2003, 11:57
after recent head skimming, water pump, matrix, thermostat etc.
Can anyone please help me out on various readings.

When car warm, {afer driving for ten minutes }

Oil is between 96 and 100

Water is around half way

is this about average as dont want to have head trouble again.

Oil sounds the same as mine, water seems a bit hot? Mine runs at 1/4 and goes to 1/2 in traffic then the fan cuts in, it's never gone above 1/2.

What's it like in traffic? If it doesn't go over half I'd say you've nothing to worry about.

Rob,

Your readings sound spot on , nothing to worry about. It is normal for the water temp to go up to 2/3's in heavy traffic until the fan kicks in.

Mr Pipworks, you might want to check your thermostat as it seems you might be overcooling the engine.  Dont suppose its too much of a bad thing....

I think you might be right there. Problem with faulty thermostats sticking open means the car takes ages to warm up ,usually lots of fuel wasted.
