Welcome to the site, you'll be after a GTi in no time ! 1.8 GL is not a bad start though

Cheers people!.
Would like to keep the grill thanks, I prefer the single light grills.
-
Welcome.
Keep the chrome trimmed bumpers

Going to have a good little play with Photoshop. hehehe.
Has anyone cut there springsbefore on a mk2 ?, so skint but need it lowerd lol.
-
DON'T cut the springs! it'll make it very DANGEROUS!
Stick with the standard ones until you can afford shorter ones.
The following is purely my opinion:
remove rubbing strips down side
paint the edge of the grill with chrome paint
lay the wiper down if you can't afford to loose it completely
save for some springs and roll the arches for a slammed german look

Cheers for the inputmate, how much filling is invilved is you remove the side strips ?,\Is it held on by many bolts ?.

The strips down the side are usually just clipped on with little plastic plug type thingys  Or they are on my mk1 anyway. You can get lowering springs cheap though, ventura ones from ECP are about 50 notes
