Dont suppose anyone has got any info on putting a 20v in a mk1? i know for a motor going cheap, and i want something small and light to put it in..........
also could the mk4 g/box be used, or would i need something else etc, etc.
ta for any help
-
mk3 or g60 box is better as the mounts are in the right place. other than that it's a straight drop in.
-
so the engine mounts are in the same place? was thinking of doing a mk2, but i didnt want to show you up......
only messing. just a thought, the caddy is basically a mk1 aint it? hmmmmmmmmmmmm....................
-
G6Dub is doing a caddy conversion, she should be able to help you out with details.
-
G6Dub already have a 20V mk1, as well, so definately the ones to talk to....
-
There's some info here that will help:-

yes have 20v in mk1, you need custom engine mounts, and as far as I know I am the only person to have the 6 speed box so far as there is a lot of custom work to get it in there, so most people use a G60 box.
I am in the process of doing a mk1 caddy it will again have the 20vt and 6 speed box.
The best way I think to do it if doing it yourself is to buy a complete car i.e a crashed one then you can use everything, I have all teh 20v wiring etc... all going in and it also sorts out the costly imobiliser troubles everyone else is getting, as you can use the original ignition and key.

This is deffo the smartest way of doing it.
IIRC you were able to use the loom to power the headlights etc in the Mk1 weren't you? Neat job.

yeah the mk1 has nice bright lights for a change ? and best of all were the moden powered windscreen wipers!
The Caddy will not be as smooth under the bonnet, as I will have a heater this time lol need to be a bit practical.
Picked the Caddy up last week from teh body shop, had the engine bay painted so went from this

I can tell its gonna be good already
When are you hoping to be all done?
-
and i thought i was being original thinking of a 20v in a caddy ? damn bugger sh!t.
btw, that engine bay looks uber-smooth! ? why dont you post your progress in the project section? just a thought....
-
ummm that is a question lol.
We hope to have the engine in and runing in a few weeks, but then it has to go back to the body shop for a few bits ?
Then it will need the turbo hose's sorting out I have made a temp thing up so it will run but it is going to have a few custom parts made and I will pollish them, as if you member at mo it all goes in the inner wing in the MK1 that won't be the case in the Caddy, then all the other bits and bobs i.e it needs a dash and interior.
We will have it running and the outside finished for May (the plan is to take it to International)
The interior will be in there but with time and money that won't be done till later this year.

why dont you post your progress in the project section? just a thought....
umm don't know how lol maybe I should find out
-
Interior sorted for vwaction in september ? jv or rich can set up the project thing for you, drop them a pm
-
it needs a dash and interior....
Any ideas what you plan on doing?? Can I cheekily suggest a TT dash??!!
I'd love to have the time/patience/money to do what you guys are doing, so I'll just live out my ideas through your new project, LOL!!!

at mo have the orig caddy dash and also a very early mk1 golf dash.
The problem I am having is that I want to fit the Seat clocks into what ever I use.
Seats would like 911 seats and have them black leathered.
Caddys don't have carpet! so that needs sorting too, mk1 stuff won't work as using seat gear stick etc..... so another custom job and they all take time and worst of all money!
-
Will seat leon dash fit, with the necessary butchering?
Am i right in thining they are very similar (identical?) to an A3 dash?
911 seats would be awesome....
-
yeah the clocks part would be the same as the audi
We can get it into the old syple mk1 dash as it was done before but with no where left for anything else and no where to hide a few wires and the glove box would still have to be used and full of switches.
If we use the newer caddy dash, the clocks again would fit well that is a just with some more cutting up, but we could then use other switches to wire things in and leave the glove box free for stuff, and also might get away with having a sterio where the ashtray part is without it looking to out of place.
To many disisions to make!

Have you seen these?? Yummy....

(plus the re-trim) in the future if you get stuck let me know if you want a hand with trimming.
