Title: Cambelt Change, how much?
Post by: Horney on 26 January 2005, 22:44
Just picked myself up a 8v Gti. It's 10,000 miles overdue for a cambelt change and I was wondering if any of you guys could give me a rough idea of how much this will cost me? Don't really fancy doing myself in this weather with no garage. Until it's done I'm keeping it off the road as 10,000 miles overdue is way too much for my liking.

I had mine done the other week, cost me ?112. As blue says it's about ?60 labour plus parts and vat. As a bit of advice, make sure you get the timing belt tensioner done at the same time and it will save you some cash in the long run and get genuine VAG parts too. Mines a mk1 but the prices for mine were ?11 for belt, ?25 for timing belt tensioner (both VAG), ?60 labour and then VAT on top. It's certainly a job that should never be put off until later !

Yup he did both! ?70, magic!

Just been out for a burn and am loving it. Not as quick as the mini, but just as much fun in other ways.

Jobs remaining are:-

Wash wipe not working
Temp gauge not working
Fix 1st/reverse problem
Fit stereo
