whats required in order to do this? im guessing it isnt a simple case of just taking a hacksaw to it?

ha it really is that easy :) find a new gear nob cut your shifter down to required size then stick a hose clamp arouns new knob and shifter, simple :smiley:

cant ya just re-use the original gear knob? just pack it wi superglue and slip it on? lol

i like the sound of this, where do u get the new gear knob and all the other parts from?

you can get a mk4 shifter of ebay for around £5 - 10 there not real leather on some of them but look spot on, you can get a hose clamp from places like homebase etc thats all you need really :smiley:

my mk3 gear knob is still in pretty reasonable condition, might just re-use that...meh, its one of those jobs i say i'll get round to doing, but never do. been saying for weeks that i'm gonna joey the headlights lol, and still nothing

Get a MK4 / A3 Gear linkage and cut down your gear stick :cool: there's a shorter throw between gears ;)

I done this to a 1.8 Mk1 GTi a few years ago, the gear changes were at lightning speed :wink:
