Title: Turn up the heated seats? Vagcom?
Post by: p3eps on 03 October 2010, 12:26
Its starting to turn pretty Wintery here in the UK, and over the last few days I've had the heated seats on for the first time.
Compared to my MK5 seats, the amount of heat that comes out on FULL POWER seems very low.  Its ok just now, but I can imagine in a couple of months it will won't be nearly enough heat!

Is there a way with Vagcom to increase a value somewhere to change the settings for the heated seats?
If not - is this something the dealer can do with their tools?
If I had my MK5 seats on full for my whole journey to work (15-20 mins) I would feel like my ass was on fire!  With my MK6 seats it barely reaches a comfortable level.

I bet p3eps you have the dreaded leather- like seats. It will take ages to heat them and they will remain luke-warm at best. Nice!
Hope you can make the elements hotter without burning them out and damaging the leather.

My leather seats heat up quite nicely and no different to the ones on my Mk5

Hi

Same as above.  I have full leather and heated seats and have experienced no problems with the level of heat coming through.

I have three levels of heat on the button and level 1 has my ass toasty in about 5 mins from driving off on a cold morning.

I have yet to use levl 2 or 3 but reckon my ass would be like the start of "Bonanza" if I cranked it any further

P3eps, don't quote me but I'm sure I saw a setting when I had a loan of a VAG.com lead.

But I think the opposite will apply to your statement
"Compared to my MK5 seats, the amount of heat that comes out on FULL POWER seems very low.  Its ok just now, but I can imagine in a couple of months it will won't be nearly enough heat!"

The colder it is the more you will feel even the slightest bit of heat.

Been lookin at this tonight and I do believe there is some vcds setting that can be changed to either extend the heating period(they do actually cool down and turn off if too hot) or you may have a damaged element which may be picked up on vcds fault reading

Although its possible to increase the current going to the heater pad, circumnavigating the auto shut off feature would be much more problematic. Upgrading the heat pads would be an option but removing the seat cover is best avoided unless you know how re-fit them....re-trimming the cover by hand, without experience could well leave results more annoying than 'warm' instead of 'hot' heated seats...I'd try and accept them and be glad you have them...they are a great option.

If you do genuinely 'need' to do something, either toughen up or get some of these.....

you can even get something similar for your handy paddys....

Thanks for the replies...

I don't think they're broken.  I think that maybe comparing them to the ED30 cloth seats is a bit unfair.  Obviously cloth will give out more heat, and much quicker.
It was my other half that pointed it out to me last week - that they weren't nearly as hot as my last car... and when I tried them, I agreed.
Not a huge deal, I just thought there may have been a setting to adjust the heat of each step.
