1990 16v won't start.
help!
got out of the car yesterday come back to it and it won't start checked spark and and dizzy also put a new fuel pump relay on it but before this happened you could hear the fuel pump at the back of the car whirring now you don't now i have been told there are two pumps on the car but which one has failed?help........
also anyone know of a good reasonable mechanic in the wrexham area?
-
Sounds silly but have you checked the fuel pump fuse?
-
fuses ok!
-
if the one in the tank fails then the other main pump will still pump fuel just!! but it will give up the ghost in the end!
so you need to replace the main pump which is located under the car just infront of the driverside rear wheel
they aint cheap to replace! they are about ?100 from EuroCarParts
-
thxs for the advice
-
I would check there is power to both pumps before replacing anything.
-
there is a wrirring noise comming fromthe little pump ib the engine bay by the dizzy next to the fuel rail?
-
thats not a pump
only fuel pumps are in the tank and under/infront of the rear driverside wheel
-
"there is a wrirring noise comming fromthe little pump ib the engine bay by the dizzy next to the fuel rail?"
That sound like the ISV, I also thought that was one of the fuel pumps when i first got my valver :embarassed:

-
is there power getting to the fuel pump?
-
no......but the old pump was knackered so its a good job i changed it.
-
Try bridging the fuel pump relay.
Remove the relay and bridge the 2 big slots on the board, see if the pump operates.
-
ok will try is there any other things i should look at
-
do u have an immobiliser on the car?? sometimes these cut the power to the pump
