Title: Mk1 fuel pump
Post by: sinatra on 16 August 2003, 16:41
I'm new to this site and also to golf ownership.
I have a '91 gti cabriolet that wont start. Left it in the garage whilst on holiday and I think the fuel pump has packed up (no ticking when the ignition is switched on).
Does anyone know how I can confirm this is the problem and if they know of a reliable mobile mechanic that could fix/replace it? (I'm afraid days of scrambling around under cars give me no pleasure any more). I'm in north Hertfordshire.

You should hear it buzz for 2 seconds when you switch the ignition on. If it doesn't, check you are getting a supply to it. If no supply, check the fuel pump relay. look in the Haynes manual and it will give you a procedure for bypassing the relay, if fuel pump still doesn't run, pump is at fault, if pump does run, relay is at fault.........or connections to it i.e coil, eh Marcus.  ;)
