Title: Thermostat.
Post by: Crash on 26 January 2005, 14:07
Hey Folks.
I have a MK2 Golf GTI 16v 88,  I want to change the Stat on it but have found the Power steering pump housing is over the top of the water pump, now can I remove the PS with out having to empty the oil(ie is it a sealed unit?) and if so is it easy, especially the refitting ie the fitting of the belts is it just like the alternator, to adjust belt taughtness you just move it in/out or up/down ?? Don't think I can find anything in my manual so if you could help that would be great.

Exploded pictures would be great  SO get working folks I want them pictures of everymove you do

He can't because the bracket for the PAS pump is in the way.
If you remove the alternator, then the top mounting bracket, then you should have good access to the water pump.
