Title: Mk 5 GTi Steering wheel warning light on dash???
Post by: RSJ on 30 September 2010, 13:10
I have a steering wheel shaped warning light on my dash. I own a 2008 57 reg DSG but as it is an import only comes with 2 years warranty.
Having taken the car to my local VW agent they have diagnosed the problem to be a Steering Angle Sensor which does not come as a seperate component so a new steering rack is required at a cost of over £1200 including a wheel alignment. I asked if any goodwill would come from VW but they said no?
Has anyone had this issue and is there an option to  repair the sensor if I sent the rack to someone?
Many Thanks,

If you have no joy, try an indepenant VAG specialist as they may be able to do the work cheaper. Some dealers will only replace full sections wheras others will replace component parts and be cheaper too. Pays to shop around for at least a second opinion.

As Gene Hunt said, try speaking directly to VW head office.

I found rust on both of my front arches. The dealer said VW would not cover it under warranty, and that no good will would be paid. I rang VW myself, and after a 24 hour wait they said rang back and said they would pay 70% of the bill. A little more moaning and we settled on VW paying 90% (80% by VW head office and 10% by the dealership)

It pays to moan a little mate.

Hope it gets sorted for you.
