Title: Another one bites the dust
Post by: AlanD on 29 September 2010, 20:01
Would you get rid of your VW for something with this sticking out the back of it !? I might know someone that has :(

All jokes aside apart from the shocking exhaust it seems pretty tidy -160bhp 1.6 V-TEC

popular exhaust choice i guess for jap cars, my mate is selling his polo to get his ek civic on the road
Title: Re: Another one bites the dust
Post by: DubSociety on 29 September 2010, 20:19
Those exhausts may look tacky, but jap cars seem to always have 4-6" exits like that. Its a popular choice ... just doesn't suit that to be honest ... on Supras, Scoobys & Skylines its brilliant!

Stupid exhaust like that = very caned car. And they don't make the car perform any better either.
You don't see crap like that on rally cars which are designed for performance. Those types of exhaust always make me laugh.

I've had 2 eg civics, 1 uk spec 1.6VTI and a jap spec 1.5 VTI then a ek 1.4 :embarassed: the VTI's are quick cars with good engines and never had any problems with them

would love something like this

Those old VTI's are very quick little cars with bullit proof engines, The only jap car that got me excited was the 1999 Integra Type R i had as a company car, best fwd car i've ever driven.

Well whoever's car it is they shall be going to see there mechanic alot less than when he/she owned the VW.

I've only had my car a year and the comparison to owning Jap is massive.

Good times for me then

Did wonder what sort of response i would get on here. I love the car at the moment is completely different to my vr6 but in a good way, can cruise along gettin 40+mpg and then open it up and have fun with the vtec! Exhaust will be going asap, gettin a spoon n1 if that means anything to anyone here  Il think about new wheels beggining ofnext year. Going to be doing boring stuff on it for now like oil change, brake discs etc etc

Yeah I know what a spoon zorst is, not sure if it's any good for your car but my mate speaks highly of a place called TDI north or something like that which are top notch for civics. Not sure why their called tdi north in that case, but regarded very highly by CTR owners

My brother broke down in his 57 Leon due to a battery problem that couldn;t be sorted on the spot and the recovery guy said that the car's he least has to attend to over all is the Honda Civic, didn't mention which model or age he actually said so think it was accross the range. He also said that almost all of them can be sorted at roadside and get them on there way.

So good times ahead for you mate, fingers crossed.

The price usually reflects the car on the CTR in my experience seeing what quite a few of my mates have bought also.

Just starts to open up the valves at about 5k me thinks, either way it's ages before redline just not enough poke before that.
I mean it's not got enough torque early on so you gotta kinda hammer the v-tech's to get full potential and their designed to put up with being hammered and can actually take it which is brilliant.

Yup is why im going for it!

6k? guess you've not been a vtec?

Exactly, vtec kicks in at 5.6k and revs all the way to 8.2k on the b16a engine! Sounds insane in vtec  and coming from a vr6 i can say it still sounds good in comparison i would say!

First brand new, showroom fresh car we bought was an EP3 CTR, great car, I never felt it lacked torque as it certainly lacked the stodge that of the Mk4 1.8t it replaced so it all evens itself out.  Only thing that I felt let the car down was the feel of the switchgear, they were getting things to look right at this stage but the buttons, indicator stalks, etc, just felt too flimsy in my hands.  That and the front seats mechanism not remembering the position when the released for rear seat access, well annoying.  Everything felt it was designed to an exact brief, not over engineered and certainly not under, just right.

The earlier cars just look to old granny for me.

No such thing as bullet proof, a car is only as good as the service it gets.

From experience Honda and the Vtec engine are bloody expensive to repair, I had an Accord 2.2 Vtec it was great until it went wrong, thank god it was a company car.
Was bloody quick though.

Look after it and it will look after you.

Yup a car will only be as good as it is looked after! I can tell the previous has ragged this car a little bit, but it was relativly cheap for what it was and i dont mind a challenge!

A mate just put a B18 from an integra in his EK, dayam its quick! Definetly some inspiration for this cars engine in think...

I really like these. I was on the look out for an EK9 Type R, but the decent ones are proper money plus I would have to use it every day.

On my list of must own cars though.

Yeah EK9's are mega money! Wouldn't mind one but not sure i could justify the price as i could easily get an integra with the same money!
