£200 for a cambelt change.. 16v you have?   even so that's a fair whack for a belt change..
I've been quoted under £100 all in..and that's with a good reputable company top mechanic.. 8v that is..

The place i go are specialists.. from what i hear £70-80 is a good going rate for an 8v cambelt change..a bit more if you go quality company.. £200 sounds more than double in my book..

Do a online mot check and see if the old reg is shown on hpi it, that will 100% tell you.

cambelt is not that hard to do, as long as you don't move the pulleys when they have no belt then you're fine. Bottom pulley has to be removed though so the cambelt cover can be taken off. Sometimes the pulley bolts get rounded off or seize so they are the biggest problem when doing this job.

If there the original windows on the car some of them might have the reg printed in corner of one try the front doors window glass by the door pins or any window really try old tax discs if there in the holder aswell

cam belts are easy enough just dont move anything when doing it put it on timing marks and mark the dizzy saves messing about later. theres a guide on here somewhere on how to do it step by step try google search
