Hello everyone, I've recently collected a new GTI (pictures coming at weekend), I'd like to know if the dashboard lights for the the speedo/rev counter should be on, assuming the headlights are off?
I know from other Golf's I've driven that the speedo/rev counter are light all the time. Mine are off until you switch on sidelights/headlights/auto.
Have I got a fault?
Thanks

No fault mate, they have a sensor somewhere and change depending on the light conditions. Sometimes they are off and all that is lit are the needles.
Hope this helps.

Yeah its a pretty cool feature to be honest. If you go through a long tunnel for example, they will light up due to their surroundings then fade out as you leave due to it getting brighter.

The backlight on mine does seem to vary even when the lights are off,
The brighter it gets outside the brighter the backlight becomes until it gets dark enough for the Auto lights to turn on and then it is on permanently

OK, mine isnt doing this, it's looks like they are permanently off in daylight

Mine seem like yours, David.
Hmm ..... never noticed the gradual increase in illumination.
Must check this out!

Interesting, I wonder if it's a GTI thing. The lack of light makes them hard to read when its overcast/cloudy (compared to the lit versions in normal models)

Also, another question does the GTI get static cornering fog lights?

Not as standard but they can be enabled using VCDS, if you know anyone with a cable.
