Hi all,
Can anyone tell me what the annoying rattling is on my exhaust. I've been told it's the heat shield, but the only one I can see is actually part of the exhaust down pipe. Funny enough, when I had my mk2 gti many many years ago, I remember the same noise!
Can it be fixed?
Regards

Very common. I sorted mine out with 2 jubilee clips that I joined together. I tightened it around the heathsield as hard as possible and in the 2 years I had it on the car it never rattled.

^^^ That worked for mine too :)
Jack the car up and do it from underneath, makes it a lot easier :)

I did it from above without any hassle or complications

Just brought some large jubilee clips off of eBay. I'll let u know how I get on.

Where abouts is the rattling heat shield. Mine is noisy but I have been told it's the cat.
Is it the shield running the length of the car?
-
No it just runs along the downpipe. It's common for it to loosen up and rattle.

Cheers I will take a look.

The rattle on mine was the heatshield thats under the centre section of the exhaust, pretty much in the middle of the car,it had come loose and was resting on the centre pipe, was very very very very annoying but easily fixed
