Title: fitted the morettes and lowered it last week
Post by: jonnygti66 on 28 September 2010, 00:33
hello fellow mk3 fans  just thought i`d show you my work ive done on the golf, i paid very little for the lights, then got a colour match and sprayed them, then i sourced a set of lowered suspension and fitted the lot on,but what a job!! after one broken ratchet  and a few hours of swearing it all became apparent it was worth it!!! just got to swap my ratchet as it has a lifetime garantee

That looks real sweet, can I check though - and sorry if this sounds daft, but did you put the springs on the right way round? (cant remember if they all look the same on all 4 shocks) usually the back sits a little higher than the front? Liking the morettes too!!

cheers bud, yes thyre on the right way round, the reason the rear is a little lower is that i cut the rears slightly as they were the same as standards, im going to do the fronts when the weather picks up, i left  them at 40mm lower as i have to drive over horrendously high speed bumps 4 times daily and its a nightmare  but im thinking maybe another 20mm will be ok.

Was gonna say that too Wayne!
Fr the price of lowering springs it's just not worth it anymore!

tbh, I'd just get a set of JOM coilies or equivelant. For the cost they are fine so long as you get the adjustments done early on as the threads will corrode a bit and rings will stick. But I seriously cant complain at the ride they are more comfortable than any kit I've had before, Eibachs + koni's, Tanabes, tein HR, superstreet, superdrift, Gmax + unknown shocks, PI's, Jamex springs + shocks and thats sitting damned well low enough too. The car doesn't handle brilliantly but then it wont without considerable work outwith a set of coilovers. Honestly worth every penny and more.

also have you had the camber done since thanging them as i dont no if its just my eyes but looks abit like the front wheel is sitting in at the top

cheers buddy, ive got to order a deep splitter, and yes,i done the camber with cotton and a nail lol , it was positive camber before on the n/s and negative on the n/s so its a good job i done it. any ideas to the correct angle/degree i should use though? :undecided:

i cant remember the corroect camber setting tbh mate.
when i did mine i used a small spirit level.
put it against the brake disk before and put a mark on the level with pen then after the put the coilovers on i just got the brake disk back to that same mark.

Cutting springs is a bad move.

Wondered how long it would take before someone mentioned that.

As said just buy replacement springs, think thats alot safer than cutting em.

Just to echo what has already been said, the rear looks ok but you shouldn't have cut the springs  :undecided:

The front needs to come down quite a lot! You'll be able to get it way lower than that and not have problems with speedbumps etc!
