From dead cold my aum runs abit lumpy and loud, checked the secondary air pump for split rivets but all seems sealed, just full serviced it and tryed 2 maf sensors already any ideas?? and i've tryed searching

I have a similar issue, all the usual things have been checked/replaced and once the sap turns off shes fine, wiered.
-
Yup. Similar story here too.
Once the SAI is off it runs OK... that is until the SAI comes on again briefly about 2 minutes later for a few seconds.
-
also noticed this on mine too since the temps dropped in the morning/evening sai pump runs goes off and then maybe comes on for few secs about 1 minute after initial start up,some of mine could be down to the fact that theres no pcv system in place as i'm running a catch can and also its 19mm pipework so compared to the std size pcv stuff its alot bigger/open
-
possibly a vacuum leak somewhere around the n112 valve, near the dipstick
-
mine is same to on morning :embarassed:

Hi Topher,
Which valve is that mate? I've already deleted the N249. Is n112 also part of all that mess under the inlet manifold? Can it be easily removed with no ill affects?

I still got pcv system, seems like we found a common problem. Toph, how can you check for vac leak? Which block do you log, don't you look for fuel trims of-4? Or something like that?

seems like i've opened a can of worms here
ive bought this up before as its quite loud in the morning when i leave it to warm up from cold, embarrasing too sounds like a massey fergie

I looked at my SAI for split rivets and i couldn't see none but was bored one saturday and thought sod it will have a look went B&Q got some bolts nuts and washers took my SAI pump out and even tho i had checked it, it still had about 2-3 split rivets and i could now physically see the gap which was making it much louder..
Changed the rivets for bolts with loctite on the nuts and to this day its been much more easy to listen to and much less of a maggy fergie which is what mine sounded like before i done this..
Dunno if this helps but for £5 it helped me :)
-
i've got plenty of bags of nuts and bolts so i might try it anyway...
cross your fingers for me

fingers and toes all crossed

I did my Secondary Pump with new bolts etc and resealed it but my Golf would still be a bit lumpy when the pump was running. Just a characteristic of the car I guess and I lived with it...

Yes mate, the SAI pump repair has been done on mine already too. Still runs funky when the pump is on, so much so I wait for it to end before driving off.
Surely the car never did this from new, what's worn out / leaking to make it run like this now?
-
could the actual pump itself be dodgey ??
-
Mine is so embaressingly loud first thing in the morning. Could it be split rivets ?
-
yes definately..
