Just driving along a dual carriageway and got done by a local plod with a handheld speedgun hiding behind some park cars.
You are driving dangerously fast!
I said what speed?
The reply is 41mph with a look of disgust on his face!
Not got done since my teenage years and I had not prang my car for ten years plus. I drive so cautiously that some of my friend says I am boring!
You guys and gals can imagine how upset I am!
The GTI is just too refined for its speed. Didn't even realised I was at that speed just seconds after coming out of a junction!
-
I would have said to him see you court , if he was hiding behind bushes, He needs to be visable ?
Dont accept the fine or the points take it to court , I did and won
-
Steve is 100% on the button. Did you see him and was he clearly visible?
Go back to where you were and check.
What was the speed limit?
Sometimes it is jealousy that prompts them to do this.
It is not a very nice feeling when this happens.
-
Thanks Guys!
I was laughing at my 61 year old mum when she got her first three points in thirty years! (She drove a Mk5 Gti-currently Mk6) Again, I cannot remember the last time she had an accident!
I just feel harddone by a society who keep blaming speeding is the only cause of our 3000 deaths each year!
Most people who got fine are those with 60% NCB and already paying half their income to our pathetic Treasury!

Steve, how did you manage to prove that? Are they not always in 2's?
Do you know what you would have had to pay in costs if you had lost?
-
At 41mph measured you must have had an indicated 45mph on the speedo. What was the speed limit, 30mph? It's a bummer alright, but if it was me I'd be saying "fair enough" through extremely gritted teeth. No chance of being able to do the speed awareness course is there?
If he's doing you for 41mph in a 40mph zone then that's one to contest/go to court for!
-
dual carriageway is 70mph isn't it? officer?
Anyway I was "hossing" it back from Scotland on an east coast route just south of Berwick in June.
I was in my dads Saab and there was a police car hidden in the central reservation behind a road sign. I couldn't see a thing until I watched this copper lean right out with a speed gun pointed right at my number plate. There was no way he couldn't have registered my speed.
I never heard a thing despite bracing myself for a letter.
Was it because he was hidden?
-
It is a a 30mph zone. The dual carriage before the junction is 40mph. :embarassed: Just check my ticket, that lazy officer didn't even bother to put my speed down-just the 618 code which I got no idea how many points I am going to get!
Not been a victim of a speeding ticket for more than a decade. Just want to let it out of my chest in a forum!
Sorry for any BRAKE members here!
Despite all this trouble my GTI cause me, I still love it and will probably remap it after my 1st service as planned
-
You were speeding simple. Take the punishment no need to make a fuss about it is there.

This might be in your favour if you wish it to go to court.
You could write a letter with mitigating circumstances.
You can also find out how many points you will get + the fine. Minimum of 3, maximum of 6 with a £100 fine is the norm. For a 618 code it is usually 6 as you were nearly 40% above the speed limit.
Wait until you get the letter.
This may, unfortunately, affect your Insurance Premium.
My sincere sympathy.

I asked for a court hearing becuse the officer was hiding behind a barria on duel carrage way, he said i was speeding 67 in a 40 zone, now there was a car in front of me and a car at my side so why pick out mine Ed30 at the time brand spanking new? I told him that he was not visable no way could he be seen , I also know that you have to be visable from 500 meters asked to see calibration certificate of the gun which of course he didn't have. The policeman became very aggresive towards me once I told him I know my rights, and asked for a court hearing, He did offer me 60 pound fine also 3 points and would i make a statement , I refused told him that I would see him court that was 2 yrs ago not heard a thing since.
-
Ah right, I thought you had taken him to court and won
He obviously knew he was b%llsh!tting and decided not to take it any further.
Result.

You might get a chance of a speed awareness course and £60 fine if you're lucky. Fingers crossed it works out ok for you in the end!

It is not a very nice feeling when this happens.
I haven't heard this much nonsense since I don't know when; you are not seriously suggesting that police pull cars for speeding because they are jealous are you? Grow up.
There are lots of things in life which give bad feelings, getting a speeding ticket is way down the list.

Why not? Are you so sure? Police are human and this could instigate them. So do not agree with you and I am entitled to my opinion just as you are to yours.
-
Not necessary jealousy but probably sterotyping GTI drivers as drivers that speeds and drive dangerously.
One of the first thing he ask me is how many points I got? When I told him the last ticket I got is 1997, he smirk!
I was polite all the way thru. With his attitude, you know there is no chance!
There were two car in front of me. A corolla and the other a white van (the latter pulled left to park), he didn't flag them! Why?
I handed my licence today and the officer (who is more polite) explain it will be 3 points and told me he got done last year in Wales!
-
I think the police target a lot of other people before GTI drivers, you were just unlucky.
-
When I got an XR2, I was targeted something rotten. 11 points in like no time at all. I was driving like Miss Daisy for the next three years, but that didn't stop them pulling me over. I got rid of the car and got the Peugeot GTi. Never pulled over once in 11 years, even though it was a faster car. Which happened to look exactly like a tame Pug 306, not a boy racer.
Rolfe.

That bug is clever as Hell!!
How do I get one? I wrote a book called Bedbugs!

11 points! I thought I was a typical naughty teenager in the early nineties!
My driving nowadays is so much more civilised!
Similar car history with me. Got a XR2i but dress up like a RS Turbo. My insurance gone crazy after culminating a few points and having my very first prang! So change to a 106 Rallye MK1 which got free insurance at that time---what a bargain £8700 for a brand new car with 12 months free insurance. In terms of driving pleasure (Not ownership), that little peugeot is still one of the most wicked car I ever own!
-
You young ones are so spoilt now-a-days.
I think you deserve a ban for a year!
-
I got a speeding ticket in my red mk1 Golf Driver back in the 80s. I then sold it and bought the GTI

+1 , nothing to do with the car you drive.

I wasn't even a teenager! The XR2 was by way of a 40th birthday present (long story).

Classic Rolfe.
Now I know why I love you.

Rolfe, an XR2 for your 40th? You must be comming up for a free bus-pass then soon?
-
If 41mph is "dangerously fast" then I'm going to be in all sorts of trouble.
Unlucky fella, as I know all too well, these things happen.
-
GTI caused me my first speeding ticket for donkey years..... I don't know a bad workman all ways blames his tools  (sorry only joking herbie911). I'm sure the revenue from the fines goes towards the Police Xmas party!
This will be the kiss of death.... but I honestly haven't had a single speeding ticket in 20 years of driving ( god that makes me sound old  ). I've been a lucky boy.
-
cant blame the car for your driving!
i have a K1 safety camera thingy.... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_728571_langId_-1_categoryId_165641
its paid for itself already
