Title: Speedo discrepancy anyone?
Post by: untoldstory on 27 September 2010, 13:05
I have about 4 mph discrepancy between the digital and the regular speedo (which is what u need for a ticket!!!). Does anyone have the same issue?

My speedo works well. It sometimes looks like it is 1 or 2mph out when going up/down a hill but that's about it, sorry!

Stick to the needle :)
Besides the speedo shows a higher speed then the actual

I know mine (needle) is out by the 10%. Had it flagged at RR sessions, trap speeds and the wee speed signs that give you a smiley face

I don't really mind though because my speedo is optimistic so there is no real danger in terms of the law.

However I don't know what you mean by the digital speedo. The only digital indication of speed I get is either the Average speed or the Cruise Control speed.  :undecided:

Don't know where the OP is from but if you change the car setting to Rest of the World you get the speed in digital readout like this.

That's the speed on the MFD which I have in kph (incase I go to the continent).

Whoops, p3asa/Usain Bolt crossed the finishing line before me beautifully.

If you change to the rest of the world you can toggle it between MPH & KPH.
Don't see the point for KPH in the UK.

My digital speedo and my needle are pretty much the same

When I check my Micro RoadPilot (GPS Speedo) it reads about 3 - 4 mph higher than my cars speedo.  I guess this is a good thing as it gives you a bit of tollerance when going through speed traps etc.

EDIT: Whoops - posted the same photo twice by mistake!

I'll bet you drove an extra mile for your mileage to be that neat for the photo

all cars speedometer aren't exact. You'll find that the faster you go the more inaccurate it becomes.best thing to do is get a satellite gps

They must show speed equal or greater then the actual - to be on the safe side. Normaly it's about 10% off so the faster you drive the more the difference is.

P3eps drives a Golf R hence the blue needles.

Sorry to drag up an old thread.
Just wanted to check what would be the average over read of the speedo?
Came round a corner today and was faced by a camera van in a 30.
Don't think I was speeding but when I looked the digital mfd said 48km/hr, which I know is around 30 on the speedo.
What would be my likely true speed? 26, 27?

Thanks

Speedo has to be accurate at 30mph  :nerd:

How do you get the speed up in the MFD as I cannot seem to figure it out, I have read the manaul, but have still been unable to turn it on. Any help would be great, thanks.

kmh should be on the mfd at all times by deafult but you can change it to mph with vag.com

Am sure on my mark 5 with 30 on the speedo, it says 26/7 on the climate control when you get the speed up.

Ah well, I'll know in 2 weeks time.

31mph on GPS = 30mph on MFD
53mph on GPS = 50mph on MFD
75mph on GPS = 70mph on MFD

Though the MFD does seem a little ahead of the needle again.

With 48 km/h you'll be perfectly safe. Just stay within 10% over the speed limit (as indicated on speedo) and you'll be ok.
