Title: Young Drivers - I'VE FOUND THE SOLUTION!
Post by: Bellend on 26 September 2010, 22:13
Another topic but somewhere I have seen a website that you have to email details for a quote, yellow in logo colour.

I CANNOT get quotes for less then £3.5K for a 1.0 Polo/1.6 Golf.

Garaged at night
Parent/s on policy
7K mile limit
Not used commuting (don't need it for work)
Have access to other vehicles.

I want my own policy for the NCB. Otherwise I will have to LEGALLY (yes, LEGAL) go on my mums insurance. She will drive it more then me in that case. I will be some evenings only.

Cheapest has been Admiral, just emailed Adrian Flux.

Cheers.

EDIT:

BUY A SKODA FELICIA

All above, 2 grand with mum and dad on. Stick sister as a learner on and £1458.75

Now, buy a Skoda or insure my Golf lol

Someone in work has been looking for his 1st car, he found VW's very expensive to insure, it might be worth looking at something like a Micra or Clio for a 1st step, I know that seems sad but with 1 years ncd it should drop a lot.

Try Green lights and sky insurance and get them to battle if possible, im 22 on a mk2 gti 16v and it's 700 flat with sky insurance.

Older golf's are easier to steal (GTI gurantee'd theft item) so meh! ! I did have a 1.8 driver with quin when I was 18 and insurance was just a touch over 700 with quin.

If you pay over 2k for a crap car your a mug.

Search around.

say your doing 2k miles a year and out your mum if not dad as a named driver. I was insured by myself on 1.6 pug for £1800 when i was 17 (churchill) or adirmal, but you have to put an elder as a named driver, this reduced my premiums by 1k for my 1.8t and now the mk2 16v

did mine on a golf mk2 gti, 3rd party only with 1 yrs no claims, insurance was near enough 1300, added mum & dad as named drivers and it went down to 1150... odd lol, but still good for me! definately sortin myself out with a gti next yr... why is this though, surely more drivers would make the insurance go up?! companies will cotton on soon do we think??

People like Brentacre and Hic it does go up with adding drivers on. Seems to be only Bell that it goes down with.

ALSO! I had a a 1.3 felicia. The difference between that and my 1.4 mk3 in insurance was £17 and £14 of it was an admin fee.

Soooooo not sure on your solution mate.

because if mum and dad are driving, they are seen as less of a risk than you are (more experience, maturity, NCB etc)

I think thats your problem. alot of insurance companys wont allow you to drive other cars unless your over 25 or pay alot for the policy

Im 25, took out my own insurance policy for the 1st time ever in November last year (used to be a named driver on ex-wifes insurance)
Had my driving license since June 2005,

3 points on it and a cd30 for driving without due care or attention.

fisrt car i insured was a 1996 VW polo 1litre, cost about 700 for the year, and that also covered me to drive any other insured car (3rd party only though)

Changed to 1.8 VW golf (1996) a few months ago and the price almost doubled for the year! lol!
Im with Zurich just now, waiting for renewal quotes, been quoted around the 700 quid mark so far, not so bad for only having 1 years NCD (i think) lol

bloody hell is that what insurance costs these days?

I remember it being dear when I was young but 4K ?

thats a rip off, one good part about getting older i suppose

I guess old golfs are also expensive to insure because they have a tendency to completely crumple in an accident.
My insurance is £790 on my mk2 16v gti, with 3 points and an accident in the past 4 years etc.

Had to ring the company and managed to get £200 off it.

2k is extortionate for insurance. Thieving b*stards!

Mine went down £100 declaring it.

Try http://www.endsleigh.co.uk (http://www.endsleigh.co.uk) my first car was about 4k to insure endsleigh sorted me 6months for 1400 then when that had finished only cost 1400 for a complete year but did take the piss when changing car to same BHP

Makes sense! Almost the same to insure a 2000 Bora (2.0 Sport) as it is to insure my 1991 Golf (1.3......)

If it's £2k though you must be looking at the wrong car! My highest quote was £1.5k on the 1.3 Golf standard, and I've managed to get it much lower now by having my fiancee as a named driver, and thats with mods! I pay £77 odd quid a month but I'm guessing my excess is more than my cars worth.

Wow!

Finding 2.5K on the 1.6 MK3 in April or 2k on a Corsa 1.2 or 2.7 on a 998cc Saxo.

I'll have to go through Admiral when the time comes.
