Can anybody help me with my rear electric windows. Basically they dont work!
The motors were (apparently, so the old owner told me!) replaced last year, summer 2004 and they worked for a while but stopped working again in November 2004!
Not being a mechanical person can anyone suggest what the problem may be and where, loose wire, blown fuse etc?
If not what price will I realistically have to pay to get the problem fixed.
Any help appreciated ch3ears!

IF both of them dont work, it could be due to a blown fuse, I am not sure if they run off the same fuse, so I would advise you taking you fuse box cover off and checking for the correct fuse.
Sorry cant be of more use at the minute, but just check that for now and I will have a look at my haynes manual for you and see If I can come up with anything more usefull.

Ch3ears, would appreciate that.
Will go and look at the fuses first.

Cant be that as all 4 electric windows run off of the same fuse. Bummer, that would have been too eeeeeeasy!

Do the motors make any noise when you try and move the window or they just dead?
-
Hmmm , sounds similar to the problem i have from time to time.
Do the windows work from the front set of switches , if so its the rear set and can be checked thus :-
Basically , and its easier this time of year , do the rear switches light up ?
If they do then the electrical feed is fine to them , if not , and this is what happens with mine check the childlock switch on the front set of rear window switches.

I would go with adyh's suggestions for now mate, i forgot about the childlock switch, maybe as it does not work on mine
If that does not work I will promise to look in my haynes manual tonight lol
Was busy last night so never had chance.

OK the plot thickens.......
checked the window switches tonight in the dark. The rear drivers side window switch lights up but does not open. I can hear the mechanics trying to work though, so I don't think that the motor is the problem.
Now the spooky part....
the rear passenger side window switch does not light up, but suddenly decided to work tonight from both the front and rear switches.
BIZARRE OR WHAT, I take it that this means there is a loose wire/connection somewhere????? Any theories or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

whilst trying the switches try wobbleing the rubber that contains the wires when you open the doors. As the wires can stretch and fray internally as time goes on causing a bad connection.
I had a prob with my rear windows when i brought my vr6 so i replaced the motors (60 quid for pair from scrappy) and alls been fine since :)

It could be the regulator, which is the bit the window is attached to with the lifting mechanism in turn connected to the motor.
It's quite common for the part of the regulator that attaches to the window to break as it's a plastic part attached to metal and becomes weak and snaps. The solution is to replace the regulator. A scrap yard is your best bet unless you're quite rich! But if you get a 2nd hand one make sure it's not in the same state.
Neilos, who posts here had this problem.

OK sorry about this lads, but being a novice, how do I get the door panel off :embarrassed:???
Also, going by the Haynes manual, thay rate this as quite a difficult job, will i be able to do it myself or do you reckon I should just pay a garage to fix them. Also both rear windows are not working again.

To remove the rear dor, you need to remove the trim around the switches, then undo the screw/s, not sure if there is one or two cant remembe lol. Next remove the door lock pin from the top.
Then the door is just clipped in, so carefully remove the door panel, now you will need to remove the soundproofing, best just to cut it away with a sharp knive, but not to much so it can be taped back up again.
Now you will have access to the motors etc.
Hope this helps
