dont worry, unlike most of these dash light threads all of mine work
i want to change the colours of my lights, i can get the white clock faces but im also looking to change the bulbs from the boring green(ish) to red and blue like in newer vag stuff (my dads old audi a8 dash looked lush in the night) so im thinking, red needles and blue numbers on my clocks and for the heater controls and all just red, my head unit is already this colour combo so im thinking do the rest of the dash like it.
just had a quick look on ebay but cant find anything, cn any of you guys help me out?

If you want backlit gauges you need a kit for it. DDI do very cool backlit gauges:

If you search German ebay (www.ebay.de) there is a Polish company that do backlit gauge kits for the mk3 which are very good. They also do backlit heater control panels. I don't have a link but they are top notch :afro:

hey dude,
i replaced ALL my dash lights with blue LED's from ebay, 21 quid and came with all the diodes and resisitors, painted my dials and numbers dayglo orange (humbrol model paints :smug:) and it looks awesome, dimms as well, took about a day to do but well worth it, now im installing some hidden LED's in the bits you cant see in the dark (centre console hole ad under glovebox) blue of course.
well worth it, also worth getting a 12v solder iron so you can do it in semi situ to check it works. BUT if buying from germany the instructions are Very bad and theyre - + are reverse for some reason, just be careful. :)

Let's have some pics of ya dash lights people

ok ill wait till its dark and will get one up :)

its lush, well worth the effort in soldering them all in. :)
-
How long did it take?
-
that looks awesome dude!! cheers for uploading them, i ordered the blue kit for the instrument cluster :P just need red ones now for the heater controls and switches
first question, how are the needles so bright are they lit too or just like painted with glow in dark paint or something, because thats exactly what i had in my head for the dials, also how log did it all take you?
cheers dude
-
hiya guys, it took me best part of 1 day, Buy the complete kit from ebay, about 21 quid i think, comes with all LEDS to changed ALL switches. and i painted the dials with humbrol gloss enamel paint (i have model makers hands) that took ages but its worth it whilst its all undone. its dayglow orange i painted them in which goes red under the UV light of the blue LEDS.
one link for ya all from the company i got these from (the price has dropped too :( )

Do they dim properly?
-
they do indeed, the kit comes with little solder in resistors tat allows the lot to dim :)
-
What... So they do still dim using the normal dash wheel thing?
-
yeah dude i guess they do, i only ordered a set to illuminate the speedo and tacho in blue, i might get this one now in red for the rest, gonna look schweet ><
what does that paint look like int he daylight? where can i get it from too?
cheers dude!!

here's mine, http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=147358.0
and the best bit? no soldering required!!!! I bought a strip of led's which plug into the plug where the old bulbs went and laid them into the slot where the green plastic bit was. it looks awesome.
-
Nice dude, what ya doing about the green? and have you done the switches and heating ctrls lights too?
-
i dunno about anyoen else but the bright green clock and mileage screens look awesome  is that how they look with the blue led's or is that like with a filter or something, and i think ill be going to work a bit earleir today and getting me some of that orange paint lol
-
they look odd green, but different stroke for differnt folks. and yeah that blue LEDS for ya, they are in the UV spectrum so they make stuff look hinky
-
i've only done the dash lights so far and yes they dim as before. I like them best when dimmed right down as they glow very slighty and looks really good.
The green clock actually looks good against the other colours so going to leave it as is and the needles are from anniversary clocks i bought, got rid of silver dials as prefer the glow against the black.
