I was just wondering if speedo/rev counter from a 140 mph 1990 1.8 GTi would swap into my 1991 ryder with clock

Just swap the whole units over. If you don't want the mfa then get set of clocks out of a Gl model (Iirc) as these have rev counter but no mfa

multi function indicator, its the computer thingy on the gti which shows mpg, oil temp etc. you wont have the wiring for this so it'll just work as a clock.  main thing is to check the gti clock plug(s), if it has 1 plug then will fit. if 2 then it wont

those are pre-90 ones with 2 plugs. also not keen on the wire from the resistors to the screw there, means it has PCB damage

your car has the hazard switch on top of the column yes? if so you need single plug clocks

yep mine has hazards on the column, so basically these are no good? how do i know which are the single plug ones?

well, they only have 1 plug on the bottom ;)

Or if removing them yourself then just make sure the hazard switch is on the column and not on the dash :)

Got the remains of a driver set here, they have a rev counter and they are single plug ones.

no bulbs or speedo but could be made to work. The rev counter works on it.

so i could just pop my speedo into these, that was the plan anyway as i want to keep the mileage, anybody give me an idea how hard it would be to replace all the bulbs?

bolbs just fit in the back, twist to lock em in place. speedo should just swap over

Right iv found a set in a scrappy, but before theyre removed from the car is there a way to tell if they are single plug to save me some time if theyre not, its a H reg but i cant tell via were the hazards switch is because theres no steering wheel column and the dash buttons have mostly been removed, is there any other way to check?

take dash undertray off and you can see bottom of plugs, also check the header tank if its round then they're 1 plug clocks
