Hi - I have been roped into replacing the shocks on a GTD PD115. This car has been chipped and remapped and is now pushing out about 150 BHP - or so I'm told.
What does everyone reccomend as far as springs and shocks go. The owner is fat and old and only uses 6th gear( hey he's my brother so i can be as abusive as I want!) so we are not going pimp here - just want it to handle as it should. He had the car from new and it was always a bit soft as far as handling goes. Now it's done 60K and the front shocks are done in, so an upgrade is what we had in mind. I have been reccomended Weitec with eibach springs, but I had a Mk2 with a Weitec kit on it and it was rock hard. Might try Koni. What do you guys think? Also anyone else stripped the suspension out on a car of this milage and if so what else is likely to be worn out?

Upgrade kits may have too harsh a ride for him ? try the vw sport suspension, as fitted to 1.8T GTI's as standard, someone who's upgraded may let you have their old kit cheap.

Good Idea. What about new parts from VAG ? Sell your kidneys or on a par with aftermarket kits?

I have a weitic kit (-25mm) on my mk3 golf vr6, its been on for nearly 3 years, and its really rather good

Just fitted Boge -35mm springs and spacers to mine. Handles very well without being too harsh on the ride.

Just a thought, - how much heavier is the diesel lump as opposed to the petrol GTI

If it's an OEM upgrade then the Anniversary 150PD is the kit to go for, if not then Bilstein B4s are a good budget upgrade - ?45 each.
