Title: Rear Badges
Post by: Paranoia_uk on 24 September 2010, 23:43
Hey guys, does anyone know how to go about removing/replacing the badges on the back of the car, i.e the Golf or the 2.0 letters. Would I need to but a new boot lid or do the numbers just come off?

As already said heat them up with a hair dryer then either get some fishing wire or old credit card & slide it down the back of them, You will probably need to remove the excess glue they leave behind with some tar & glue remover & then t-cut & polish the area

please dont use a screwdriver, no matter how steady handed you are, nobody wants to scratch their own car, but youre asking for trouble with this, lol

as mentioned, a credit card, its only adheisive, just gently prize the letter off, bit by bit, then was the car before applying the paint cleaner/tar remover, etc, because then youre just moving dirt around your tailgate as you 'clean it'

Thanks alot guys this is really helpful. The reason for my question is that my car has 'Golf' on one side and '2.0' on the other but there is no GTI badge. I want to remove the 2.0 and put '2.0 GTI' instead.

Well I used a screwdriver and didn't scratch nothing and I don't have a steady hand

Ive just removed my rear badges and it was easy.

I used a hairdryer to heat them up and a credit card well a morrisons fuel points card to "slice" them off then I used autoglym intensive tar remover and gently massaged it after i short while it totally comes off no hassle then its just a case of washing the area and waxing it. Job done!
