When I'm on the motorway my car's temp sits just under 90 deg occasionally. The rest of the time it's bang on. Is this the thermostat? Changed the temp sender two years ago to cure the fault of it working intermittently.

I wouldnt worry about it bud....when you are on the motorway more air is going through the rad so it is cooling slightly quicker, hence you are getting a slightly lower temp reading......

Thought that, but it doesn't happen all the time.
Could this affect fuelling etc?

This is your thermostat as mentioned in about 1000 other posts. Get it changed.
Should sit bang on 90 all of the time once it's warmed up.

Cheers

Exactly as tim states  if you replaced the cts then your next job should be a genuine oem thermostat and some new G12++ too as its nearing the colder weather a car that doesn't get up to the optimum running temp will use a little more fuel

Hey my car is doing the same so i changed it for a new temp sender. Sits on 90 now and same thing drops slightly on motorway . . . Tho When i log vagcom the group for coolant temp over a good journey it only gets to high 70's . . . . Never gets to 90 as shown on dial in car. . . Any ideas ?
