Title: Finally joined the mk5 gang :D
Post by: jonnyb on 23 September 2010, 13:24
Well, after finishing uni and finally getting some money from a REAL job, i decided it was time for a mk5.  I went for the GT TDI, purely as ill be commuting a fair bit, so need the economy with a little power for fun.

As you can imagine, coming from a mk3 2.0 16v its a nice change to not be steering a boat :D  Also has more power, even though its 140 vs 150 (mk3).

So, ill be planning on doing a few little modifications, and i was wondering what everyone thinks are the basic upgrades (i.e remap).  Anything else?

I will no doubt be remapping in 2-3 months, is R-tech the way to go?

Thanks in advance,

Jonny

Hey Johnny,
Looks like you are getting in, as most people are getting out!

I had a 16V MK3 before my mk5 GTI, big difference, though I do sometimes miss how the MK3 handled like a go kart!

As for remaps, not too sure, know the GTI ones, but not sure if the TDI would be through the same companies, know that Revo are one of the main ones in the UK.

lol "getting in as everyone is getting out".  Unfortunately i didnt have the funds for the mk6, which is a lovely looking car.  Especially the R, which i saw for the first time in the flesh last week.

Cheers for the reply!

There are some specialist diesel tuners but I don't know who they are. They advertise in some magazines though, I think Diesel Driver or something similar? You might want to call R-Tech and ask about a diesel remap anyway
