Title: Mk1 Cabriolet V5 type....
Post by: therockstar on 24 January 2005, 21:49
Hey Folks,  I've been lurking for the last few months while I try and track down a decent Mk1 Cabrio (Currently an owner of a nice Mk2 8v - my 4th so far)

I found a pretty nice one today (extremely tidy and well looked after) however the car has very little service history.  This doesnt worry me too much as the car is very tidy HOWEVER....

The V5 document says the car is a "GOLF GL 4+E 1.8" when clearly its supposed to be a GTI Cabrio......

So the simple question is - what does it normally say on the V5 for a GTI cabriolet......

Cheers in advance...

Nick

That doesn't sound right  :undecided:

Mines a Clipper and states that on the V5. Did you check under the bonnet to make sure that it was injection and not carb model like mine?

Indeed I did check it out.... and it was an injection....

However, I've Just had confirmation back from the HPI check... the car was a total insurance loss in the past.......

Which means the car could be anything..........

Shame really, someones put a lot of effort into getting it to look very tidy, but without any history and no mention of the total loss on the sale (the guy never mentioned it during the 30 minutes I was looking at the car) I wouldnt touch it with a bargepole...:

Here it is:

Ah well.... on with the looking..

Aye, he was right - the pictures dont do it justice... it really is a stunning car - not a spot of rust on it anywhere, really tidy....

But as my mate pointed out....  a fresh paint job and some neat trim really can hide a multitude of sins underneath....

The HPI Check also showed it was originally a silver car, now blue....

Nevermind....

Wouldnt it be nice if the value he gave for the engine size was correct

not all gti cabrio's have gti on the logbook.
when i bought mine although it had a 1.8dx injection engine in it, it never said gti on the logbook although it was badged as one, so i knocked around ?200 off the price as it just said "golf cc convertible cabriolet".
i now know it is a gti as i have the original sales brocure and it clearly states its a gti but as it was a cc special edition this took precidence on the log book, not knowing this ment i got money off  .
