i was wondering how to remove instrument panel, some bulbs are blown and need replacing, haynes manual shows the steering wheel removed in its pics but it concerns me as the ar has an airbag and i would be frightened of it going off
any help is much appreciated

Easy mate, no need to remove the steering wheel. Just pop the air vents out and undo the screws behind there, also on the other side behind the plastic trim. There may be others but i cant remember where, think theres about 6 in all?! Finally there is a screw either side of the instrument panel, once these have been removed it just tilts forwards, unplugs and comes out!
EDIT - i think i remember having to remove the headlamp switch too?! Still, quite an easy job and only took about 10 mins.

Remove the blanking plate to the left of the clocks just above the heater controls and there is a screw under there. Unscrew and then remove the headlight switch from the right hand side of the clocks and there is a screw under there as well. Then lower the steering wheel as far as it will go. The Black plastic surround around the clocks will then pull out. There are some screws you will see that hold the clocks in place (from memory I think there are 2 at the top). The clocks will then tilt forward and there is a connector block in the back. Then manoeuvre the clocks out Mate.

Problem nobody has told you!
Headlamp switch - it has a clip on the side just inside the opening that you have to depress to get it out in order to access the screw on that side.

Done this a while back, took it all apart put back in, once all back in noticed i had hit the MPH out by 20, out it came again.
I hate that job :smiley:
