Title: standard or upgrade brakes
Post by: bluquarta on 22 September 2010, 15:39
Need to replace front brake discs n pads on '98 8v soon. Just wondering peoples opinions on uprated brakes.

Is it worth going for grooved / drilled discs and upgrade pads on a standard engined 8v? Is it that noticeable and worth the extra cash? obviously not looking to spend a fortune, so if I did upgrade would be the Brembo - Greenstuff ball park.

Or just get OE replacements from vwspares?

thoughts please....

dont mind saving for the extra if upgraded will be a lot better but if hardly noticeable i'll go standard n keep cash for other mods!

alright mate well the answer is standard work just fine for an 8v but if your like me i have an 8v with the intension of swapping engines for a bigger one in the spring so i have choosen uprated brake discs at the mo which i can tell you are very good and im only running standard vw pads. mine are 280 mm brakes so if you got the 288 mm brakes which i do have a set they look even better and stop very good! heres a few pics not great quality but you can definately see there uprated and i always have people say how good they look behind the wheels! best bet for the 8v is 288mm set up with something like black diamond discs and green stuff pads and goodrich braided hoses you will stop pretty sharpish ! or go silly and get the audi tt or porsche conversion which are about 312-340mm brakes but then thats for serious power which i hope to have next year :D hope this helps in your decision oh and if you wanted a 288mm brake calipers im selling some !

keep discs standard but you could upgrade the pads, they cost around £60 and do make a nice difference to the feel.
