Post by: gasketface on 22 September 2010, 02:58
My mate has one of these but he's an "all the gear no idea" type of guy, garage full of brand new stuff with no idea on how to use any of it (his favourite saying is " iv'e got one of them " ). I wonder if it's of any use when i fit a new belt on my p reg 8v and how do i use it if it is ????.

you shouldnt need one in theory if your mate has his own garage

Not seen that tool before but I imagine it does the same thing as twisting the belt by hand to see if it twists 90 degrees

Dubsociety, you are correct. My mate has an impact driver with different heads,in a blue metal box,you know the one ?.My mate said it was faulty as it did'nt work properly. He thought it had a battery inside it but could'nt work out how to change it !!!!.
Anyway, the tool apparently has a preloaded tensioner on it that screws in and out,bit like a torque wrench. You run the belt through it and set the pressure depending on the application and it pushes against the belt and tensions the belt.I think i will use the old method :- f it hums after fitting, slacken it off until the humming dissapears !.
