Have just fitted a new to me set of fox excite rims(thanx sue16v/slick) 195/50/15 on my '90 jetta. My problem is that now it feels bloody awful, notchy, lumpy, tramlining and takes its time to return to centre from full lock. Prior to this i had a set of bk racing multispokes 195/45/15 with no problem at all.Can anyone suggest anything.

Did you have them balanced ?

Did you have them balanced ?

Haven't had them balanced.Tyre pressures at 32 is this right? If you look at the car from the front the wheels looked like: / \ have changed the camber somewhat and now looks: | | rides a bit better.Think i have done right but not sure.

U need to get them balanced cos as soon as u get up to some speed i.e above 50mph ur steering wheel (& the car if theyre way out of balance) will shake like hell.
32 psi is a bit high really, i run 28 front 26 rear in my 195/50/15's
Yes, u have done the right thing by adjusting ur camber settings

you shouldnt have needed to adjust your camber at all in moving from a 195/45 to 195/50 tyre
if the wheels are balanced then only reason i can think of is that your wheels are not central on the hubs and you need a set of spigot rings for them
either that or they are buckled!!

yeah ha ha you bought a f**ked set of rims!!!!!
only joking, take the car to a reputable tyre place and get them to balance your wheels, tracking and camber adjustment. shouldn't cost much but is always worth getting it right.
