Title: Problems replacing head unit
Post by: rich3010 on 24 January 2005, 10:58
I tried replacing the standard vw head unit in my mk4 with a Pioneer unit but although it all worked fine my remote central locking no longer works. The alarm has also gone off a couple of times when I've unlocked the car.
Does anyone know if there's a way around this problem?

I replaced the stabdard unit in mine with a Pioneer and experienced no problems at all.

Check you fuses incase you've inadvertantly wiped out a fuse (most likely cause). The swapping of one head unit for another isn't enough to cause these problems, somewhere along the way you've altered/disturbed something else. First port of call is the fusebox.

If you see nothing there, take the head unit out agin, get your head in the dash, and look for wires that have been crushed/disconnected during the install.

You will find something.

Something wired up wrong is my guess, and reset the convenience settings. Read this, see if it's any help

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/aftermarket-radio.html may also have something to do with it.
