i have a 1993 8v gti engine code 2e and need to fit a replacement mass airflow meter. the car runs really badly when hot and is bringing up "intake airtemp sensor" "open or short to plus-intermittent" on vagcom. a new maf from gsf is £95 plus vat or i could try a used one off ebay for about £25. my question is about fitting, ive been told that it is not just bolt the new mfa in place and plug it in, does it have to be setup and if so, can i do this and what needs to be done? thanks for any help!

Intake air temp sensor (to my understanding) isn't the maf, i am fairly sure it's the one on side of airbox or cud be the one down near the horn in front bumper( but I think that's for the temp sensor in dash) someone else will confirm or correct me soon! Good luck! :)

on my 1993 2e the intake airtemp sensor is an integral part of the mass airflow meter. on later models it is part of the airbox. hoping i can just bolt a replacemnt maf into place and plug it in and be fixed and ready to go!

the 2e one is just an air flow meter, and yeah just swap it over job done, nothing to do on vag-com :)
