Title: Deano2711's Mark 3 8 valver **NEW WHEELS FITTED**
Post by: Deano2711 on 20 September 2010, 20:33
Here are some pics of my 8 valver when I bought it and a few from now. Owned this car about three years ago and sold it like a div and regretted it. Saw it up for sale recently and snapped it up. Since buying it I have cleaned her up inside and out. Fitted smoked indicators and fog blanks. Sprayed the badges Black, replaced the deep splitter which was snapped, had the touring strip fitted, replaced dented bonnet and had the replacement vinyl wrapped, had the roof covered in vinyl, stopped the interior shower by removing the front mounted aerial and resealing the windscreen, sorted out the rust patches over the windscreen, sprayed up the headlining.

Future plans are to clean up the engine bay a bit and maybe lower some more and replace the alloys at some stage with something more Mark 3 (if you know what I mean)

Anyway here come the pics:

Funny you should say that Mate as I was having that conversation at work today. I am thinking that maybe the two slats need to be Black but would like to keep the bottom strip in Green to break up all the Black.

Well I have got rid of the balloon tyres and fitted some VR6 BBS alloys after buying off a member on here. Looks better in my opinion. Next plan is to get some coilovers and lower it some more.

That looks great dude. Quick question, what did you use to spray the headlining black? Fabric spray paint or just normal spray paint?

Thanks for the comments Chaps and I am pretty sure that yours will look loads better Dom....much better than the standard Longbeach and the Mark 4 Balloons

Khare....I removed the headlining and firstly sprayed Fabric Glue over it to make it go nice and hard like a plastic (did it by accident as I was going to cover with new fabric but took it off and discovered the headlining had gone rock hard). Then used normal spray can Gloss Black. Took about 10 coats to get it looking Black but well worth it. Looks loads better if you leave the trim original colour to break it up.  Planning on doing yours Buddy ??

Yeah man, I've got the headlining downstairs from the 16v I broke back in April. Not sure how to paint it though, want to keep the softness of the fabric but paint it, I was thinking fabric paint. Want to do the pillars all black too, completely black interior.

You don't have to use the glue like I did. You could use the Fabric Dye you mentioned or you could just use the normal spray can. The spray can would take about 10 coats and you would need to leave it outside overnight to erase the smell. I was lucky enough to have it pissing down inbetween coats so mine went in the shed overnight anyway

I'm just looking on ebay now and there's a few choices.

Don't know which one though, or how much of it I need  :undecided: If I was to use spray I'd need a lot of it I think, so I'm leaning towards the pot paint, however not sure if one put will do  :undecided:

I looked at the Fabric Dye when I put the Scooby seats in my old motor and looked at the spray dye (2nd item on your list) and thought this would be good and easier to apply. From the looks of it 2 bottles would suffice but it's cheap enough to take 3 to be on the safe side.

Think I might do what you did mate, seems to work fine with no fading.

Post by: Deano2711 on 17 October 2010, 22:36
There's defo no fading Mate....I only did mine as the headlining had nasty water marks where the roof had been pissing in and ignored by the previous owner. Found out it was the front mounted aerial that was doing nothing anyway. Cured that by removing it and having the roof covered which also covered the slight rust over the windscreen which I treated first. Handy thing that Vinyl roof Mate but the headlining needed doing and I had the spray cans in the shed so on it went.

Yeah. I might try just spray paint, avoiding the glue stage, and see how it goes.

Be very carefull with what you use to paint it, the cardboard back is fragile
