Title: timing

my 1.6 carb runs on a bit when you turn the ignition off sometimes its like its trying to rev again and now it seems to take a few secs longer to turn over when i first start it? is this timing or a knackered carb or anything?

doubt it's a knackered carb if that is your only problem.

set the ignition timing up with a strobe and go from there.

Has this just happened or have you changed something to make it happen?

Could just need the carb setting up and the timing setting. £40 at a garage.

waxstat or something like that goes on them.Makes it rev too high.

yeah heard it might be a waxstat. where abouts is that in the engine?

check out the 2e2 repair guide in the mk2 maintenenace section. running on can be casued by carbon buildup in the combustion chamber, which is in turn can be caused if the car is running rich. the rev to 2k thing can be caused by the waxstat not getting a good supply of coolant due to a blocked coolant chanel o'ring in the inlet manifold. this coolant feed also supplies the autochoke, which will make the car run richer than it should do. another cause of high reving can be the 3/4 point unit
