Title: Seat runner guide help
Post by: twistedblack69 on 20 September 2010, 19:54
So the Golf failed it's MOT on loose front seats (as well as other things) but when I try and put the runner guides on and put the seat back on, the runner guides pop off. Is this a clue that the guides are shot, or am I not putting them on right? Was thinking about gluing them on lol but figured I'd ask on here first

shouldnt have failed cos the seat is still secure (its not coming out of the rails is it?)

mine passed with the plastic guides hanging out, the passenger seat was worse. prised them back in and its been fine since.

GSF sell them though, and they cost pennies so get some new ones

I got the same problem. Noticed it when goin round roundabouts leanin all over the show. My 1 actually clips into place firm, but as soon as u slide the seat back in it pops off?

The old ones tend to fall out of place quite easily.

There is a little retention clip in the middle - which is essentially just a pin that holds in a slot on the runners, but this gets worn and stops it holding in place.

New ones are quick and easy to fit, its always tempting to grease the guides, but there's a big risk it will dirty the carpet - so use it sparingly, thin lubricants like WD40 tend to be a big naff for stuff like that.

i find even new ones can pop off the seat, what i do is bend the middle bit inwards as far as i can, gives it a bit more springy ness on the clip to hold it to the legs. as above a bit of lube helps a liot too but go easy on it and dont bother using thin stuff. especially wd40 which is a water dispersant not a lube

try white spray grease (ooh err) which is thick, can be used on all sorts including hinges, cables etc

Anyone know about the seat actually twisting? Mine has started to do this recently and is a pain when cornering hard.. The whole base literally turns like 5-10degs!

Was just about to mention gsf. Put both on my drivers seat, huge improvement. The only play now is where the seat upper meets the lower part on the hinges. Not a problem though compared to your arse moving all over the show going into corners
