I have spent today doing my first spot of detailing,i have washed, clayed, washed, polished and waxed.it is addictive,i could just keep going.
Anyway,i never knew that I had that many scratches on the car.some down to the white undercoat.
What is the best way to get shut of both these and swirls in the paintwork?

machine polishing with different pad and polish combo's. any pics of offending scratches would handy.

claying should of got rid of most of the light scratches/swirls, did you use plenty of lubricant? and what type of lubricant did you use as some clay bars you can use water
get a good valeter to polish it with a DA

How will claying get rid of scratches?
All claying does is remove LSP and surface contaminants. Those scratches down to primer (if it really is) can only be fixed by respraying, or maybe touch-up work. Swirls will be removed by polishing. Orange peel and other defects will be removed by correction which should only be done by a professional detailer.
