Title: Rev counter has a mind of its own

Hi,

When i turn the key two clicks before starting the engine the rev gauge jumps up to 2.5k and then goes back to 0....

Why is this happening all of a sudden, only thing i have done on the weekend is connect stereo, sub amp, etc.

Anyone have any ideas?

Do you think i could of pulled out a wire or earth etc when fitting headunit as i was getting a  bit impatient with the wires behind the dash when trying to fit it. ive notice the oil ligght is flashing aslo.. i havnt driven the car since fitting the sound system so believe it to be a wiring issue.. I dont really want to have to take the whole dash out!!

Any ideas chaps!?

Dunno... I thought all the wires to the speedo unit comes from underneath the dash and not in from the side..

How did you wire the Amp? Did you wire it to the Battery? Maybe you dislodged something..

I would check over what you have fitted...

Yea the sub and amp is in an enclosure and power is straight from the battery.
I'll have to look at the weekend as its dark when i get back on week days, just aswell i have 3 weeks before driving again!

does it work fine running, i think the flick up is the coil powering up, to make the 8v clocks rev counter work on the G60 loom i had to run a wire from the coil and splice it into a wire on the back of the fusebox. when i first did it sometimes it came loose on the coil end but its been fine for a year or so.

Hi mate,

Yea i think you are right as it works ok when running, just the initial twist of the key.

Maybe i tugged it a bit when fitting the stereo!? where do i need to check the connection to see if i can improve it?

nah its on the coil pack in the engine bay.
