Had to replace what I thought was a damaged wing mirror base after a coming together with a motorbike in London a few weeks ago.

However it turned out to not really require the mirror base as it was part of the door frame that had been damaged  :embarassed:

The mirror is only held in by a single bolt then two pins locate the bottom of the base, the point where these pin locate where the problem

This caused the mirror the rattle and vibrate at speed.

You can also see from the inside how the cheap flimsy metal had just folded

Typically as my car has the folding mirrors with puddle lights the base wasn't cheap (£123 + VAT ) the only plus side was that part of the lens for the indicator had cracked and broke off (just the end that shows through by the mirror side)

So the once the lens has been repaired the old mirror base will be off the ebay unless someone on here wants it for a folding mirror retro fit project

Hope it is fixed now.
There are times when I fold my mirrors on the mad Marylebone Road due to vicious motorcyclists threading their way through at breakneck speed. I always avoid the middle lane and stay on the outside one. That way, only one side can be damaged.
However, sometimes the mirrors refuse to fold straightaway just as they refuse to open when I first start the car. I wonder why.

Most of the time my mirrors fold out as they should, but occasionally they don't but by the time I have got out of the car (leaving the switch in the L position) they unfold whilst closing I am closing the garage door, they have never failed to fold out, its just like it missed the first pulse.
