i have just open my bonnet to find a pipe in the engine bay which is located next to the dipstick in my 16v gti, it was a hole in it and look like its got no pressure (like shrivvled). could anyone tell me what this is??

Yeah it will be the oil breather pipe, they are known for cracking and leaking. Best to get it replaced to avoid any idle problems or any cabin fumes.

If its only a few drops then yes! More than that and you need to look elsewhere.

Well yeah obviously it will be OK if you check the oil constantly but not really advisable because it's making a mess of your engine and the floor.

I'd change it ASAP but then that's me.  :grin:

tape it up for now, it'll be causing an air leak
