Need to do rear axle bushes, so time has come to decide which to buy. I've decided to go poly route purely because I want to stiffen up the car (seriously it's like an 80 year old man's c0ck) but also because I don't fancy doing this job twice, so polyutherane it is.
Powerflex seem to do a good price and the type of bush they sell is what I want (Can be fitted without having to press it in), however after some research it seems the companies selling them sometimes get the info wrong for 4 stud/5 stud.
Rear Beam Mounting Bush PFR85-206 is the one advertised on Awesome GTI's page for the golf mk3, no info whether it's 5 stud or 4 stud however. The Rear Beam Mounting Bush PFR85-207 is the one for the 4 stud as far as the internet says, but I just want to make sure the 206 one will be the right one as it HAS to be the right one, otherwise I will be royally pi$$ed.
-
Awesome have just confirmed it's the 206 part number for the 5 stud, so I'll be going for them.
-
Maybe following you down this route when some dollar comes in!
Cheers for the heads up :afro:
-
They also said they fit better than OEM bushes, however they are still not an "easy" change.
-
Ordered :afro: Will let you guys know how it goes.
-
Would the same still apply if you ordered an entire kit??

What do you mean? Awesome GTI's list only has the 206 option.
-
I ordered these, don't know I have the 206 or 207 but it didn't fit at all, had to machine it down and even then it was a tight fit. I have a gti beam, so don't know if I had the 207 and they are bigger?
-
Awesome did say it would be a tight fit, so yeah I do expect some filing down possibly, I'll get the drill and wire attachment on the beam to smooth it out nicely though, should help, along with some copper grease. Quick question though, when removing the old bush do I remove the outer metal casing too or does the polybush fit inside the metal casing?

I don't know, as came across the metal casing, but there was no chance in hell that it was coming off! Maybe that's why I needed to machine mine down. I tried everything to get it too slide in... :D

Windy a slot in the casing and bang it out
-
Yeah I'm planning on cutting the casing then bending/hammering it out with a chisel or screwdriver. Should go in alright I think.
-
I have done these on mine. I think lazy may have inserted his bushes into the old bushes metal outer  . Im sure that seeing you have quite alot of diy experience, you wont have too much trouble with this. I did mine on the bloody road side. There seems to be alot of people saying what a nightmare it is, blah blah. It honestly aint that bad. Like I have said before, the hardest part was lining the beam up for refitting. I was gonna wish you good luck with this, but I dont think you will need it. Any probs, give me a shout.
-
:afro: Cheers for the heads up dude, I'm pretty sure it is an easy job, can't see it being too hard to be honest. As you said the hardest part is realigning the beam at the end, I did always think that would be the hard bit but I've got a friend over to help so shouldn't be too bad. I'll let you guys know how it goes and try and get pics.

Jesus getting the old bushes out is a challenge! I'm still fighting with bush number 1! I really can't see a way of getting the metal sleeve out to be honest, it's rusted in VERY well! Any one got any tips on removing them with the beam still in the car?
-
Dremmel (windy) a slot in the case or use a saw if your good

Tried but nothing. Left the car where it was at a mates house up on stands and brought the axle home for a lick of paint. Going to take it to a garage for them to press the casings out and then I'll bring it back to my mates for fitting again. I'll get pics of it when it's done
-
I hacksawed through mine to break the tension then hammer and chisel. I did however cut a liittle groove in the beam and then sanded it to smooth it
-
Got them off  Hacksaw to break tension, then hammered out.
-
well done fella. Looking forward to your next update.
-
When i did mine i drilled out the old one so that the rubber came out leaving just the sleeve, hacksawed out the old sleeve. used my tool i made and hey presto nice and easy. if you hit them in or out you could damage the rear axle, or it will not go in straight and not last long :)

your just tryin to sell your silly tool
-
Shhhhh, and its not silly lol!

Quick question, the bush is like the one on the left

The big triangular part fits towards the inside of the car right? I imagine it does seeing as the metal bush casings have the extended lip thing that point to the inside.
