-
Went a bit OCD with it yesterday,
Basically I was out with my Girlfriend doing the weekly shop & she had to get a Laminater for her Uni coursework, Anyway we got back home & I wanted to see how it worked so I ended up Laminating all my Invoices & service bills that came with the car, I then realised I couldnt fold them up so I went out & bought a nice Red A4 ring binder folder to keep them all in.
Means everything I buy for the car that I get an invoice for ill have to Laminate now
-
Including RR print outs?
-
Chris you seriously have to much time on your hands lol
-
Looks really nice mate. Not many around in red.

Sorta thing
-
Ah right get you now
I was going to go for 5mm front with 10mm rears, Is that not wide enough?
-
I had 25mm on the rear of mine, could of gone bigger i wreckon.
-
Looks about right to me
Wont be ordering the 10mm ones then!!
-
mine are like these, you bolt the spacer to the cars hub, then the wheel to the spacer., cant see the 25mm on ebay atm
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALLOY-WHEEL-20mm-HUBCENTRIC-SPACERS-VW-GOLF-4-BORA-/220656235780?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item336022f504
-
Looks about right to me
Wont be ordering the 10mm ones then!!
No mate, 20mm looks good with the anni wheels.
-
If I was buying again I think i'd be looking at 25 again or possibly 30. at 25 they aren't quite flush with the arches.
-
mine are like these, you bolt the spacer to the cars hub, then the wheel to the spacer., cant see the 25mm on ebay atm

So these ones use my normal wheel bolts?
-
yes, you get new bolts to fit the spacer to the hub then use your original bolts and locks to fit the wheel to the spacer. so no need to buy new longer locking bolts
-
Cheers for that, Think they are the ones I would go for, But might not be my next thing I get, I do have something else in mind first :lipsrsealed:
-
This car is full of WIN
-
whats next chris ??
-
I do have something in mind that I need to order but dont know how soon I will be able to get it, All depends on what my Bank Balance says in a couple of weeks, Want to get the expensive parts done first & then get the spacers sorted.
Couple more pics of the new rear since its a new page

+1, the last golfs I've had have been dark colours so come up really well, silver not so.
Doesn't need washing half as often though!

Chris is that what you do there detail the cars ??.. that is an amazing job i only wish you could get silver to come up like that :( :(
I wouldnt call myself a "Detailer" But have been a Valeter for the last 15 or so years,
-
the experience shows mate the car looks awesome all cleaned up..
-
Its still not as good as I would like it, The car had quite bad swirls in it from a car wash by the looks of it, All I did yesterday was quickly go over it with the Buffer using some 3M Finnese it on a soft pad & the some 3M Perfect it again on a soft pad & then some Autosmart Polish,
I only did it because I was bored & it was a spare of the moment thing, If I had planned on doing it I would have brought a few more bits home from work with me & given it a proper going over including sealing with some Carnuba wax ready for winter
-
how long does it take you to get it to the stage it looks at now cleaning wise ??
-
Only about an hour & a half - 2 hours
-
Top job that mate, and well worth the effort, looks spanking! Which only reminds me I must get mine winter prepped soon, time to dig out the old Collinite I think.
What's next on the list for you?

It was Payday earlier this week & as usual the car needed some repairs (Was Hoping to start the Modding!)
When I Was driving the Temp gauge would drop from 90 so I thought it needed the temp sensor cahnging, Went to work & took the engine cover off to check what sensor I had & noticed this
(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c339/chris246/76759a52.jpg)
The car had been hesitant at just under 1500 rpm (perhaps this was the reason?)
Anyway rang TPS & they had one in stock, Got it delivered the same day along with some new Genuine Aero Wiper Blades & Green temp sensor, Fitted everything in my dinner break, But on the drive home the gauge was still dropping so then I knew it needed the thermostat doing, Ordered one from TPS yesterday along with 3 litres of G12 plus,
Changed the thermostat today (Bit of a pain with no room!) Drove home Tonight & the Gauge stayed bang on 90
Since I had spent a bit on repair items this week I thought it was only fair ro get a little mod for it so another quick call to TPS & this morning I had something delivered
(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c339/chris246/89cd00b3.jpg)

i no the valance is fitted as standard thought maybe one was scuffed and needed replacing..
US rub strip requires quite a bit of work to fit on standard mk4 bumper then again chris has lots of money and will have the rest of the bumper on order aswell

Got the Jap spec rub strip fitted today, Was going to run a small plate on the front but decided it wasnt worth the hastle of getting pulled & having points

To be honest Chris im not to keen on that look think it would look better fully smoothed rub strip.. each to they're own though mate..
-
Was thinking of fully smoothed, But the Question is where do you put the plate where it wont attract unwanted attention from the Boys in Blue?
-
Was thinking of fully smoothed, But the Question is where do you put the plate where it wont attract unwanted attention from the Boys in Blue?
as above i am not to keen . . .but i still think US rubstrip FTW lol
I would put it on the Front pass side grill make a bracket bolt the bracket and grill to the bumper
-
Not to my tastes but it's not my car
Can you fit a 5 digit plate on a jap rub strip?

they aint cheap though are they.. i would smooth.. relocate number plate somewhere... get a number plate sticker they are legit and looks nice thats what im tihnking..
-
Not keen on the plate sorry.
-
Eventually I may be tempted to get either a small plate thats 13" wide or if I find a private plate I like thats not ££££££ ill get one of those
-
Ordered a new front plate earlier, 330mm x 100mm, Just hoe it doesnt look too small & get me in trouble!
-
is the lettering standard size ??
-
Doubt it will be, Think the standard size letters are 90mm high
-
you'll be in trouble then lol
-
True but ill have it on velsro & keep my square plate in the boot also with velcro strips on it, If I get stopped ill think of an ecuse & say I forgot to switch them back
-
are square plates legal on uk spec cars ?
-
Dont know?
Will be more legal than the small one
-
so we got really illegal.. slightly illegal.. and the legit one dont fit lol
-
Well its not UK spec front rub strip & ill just show my normal plate doesnt fit, Whats the law on square rears??
-
Took the car into VW the other week as I noticed a bit of paint bubbling on the top of the rear quater & a bit on the roof near the guttering,
Had a phone call off them 5 mins ago saying they will repair it under the 12 year corrosion warrenty & I get a loan car

You had better luck than all of the MK5'ers whos cars are rusting! They are being fobbed off.
-
Might go start a thread in the #mk5 section telling of my good news

You might just see a tumble weed in there thats about it.
Ghost town that place.
-
Because we all know the only real GTI is the MK2 & MK4
-
what about the mk1? real gti imo
-
nice one chris you must have a way with words lol.. make sure the bloody colour matches tho !!
-
Oh dont worry ill be the customer from hell if its not right!
With working in the motor trade for a main dealers I get to hear the different ways in wich people complain about faults on their cars, I learnt quite quickly you dont get anywhere from ranting & raving,
The best way to get what you want is to build a rapour with the person your dealing with & get them on your side before getting into the main discussion of the problem
-
im like that and then i go mental and rant and rave !
-
The warranty guy was saying that he had never had seen 4 or 5 cases where it was the same & each of those had been resolved by VW, He then told me I would need to come back another day so he could check the depth of my paint & make sure it had never been painted,
On my second visit he proceded to check the depth, Firstly on the panel in question the reading was 160 microns, Once he saw this he said "its a bit thick that paint, I think its bee sprayed at some point"
But talking politely to him I persuaded him to check other parts of the car, Surprisingly they were 140 - 160 microns, With this he started to look at the seals on the boot, His conclusion was that it had not been repaired.
Told me it would probably be a waste to submit it to VW as they have become very funny lately & for me not to build my hopes up. I Carried on talking to him & slowly won him around & got him to submit the claim anyway & today got the call saying they will do it
-
are square plates legal on uk spec cars ?
Yep as long as it is the correct size and type font.

did u have to show any sort of documents when doin this? on my anni's passanger door it looks as if the paints cracking under the laquer, almost looks like a spiders web, not sure if its had paint or what but if it has would that void the warrenty?

-
You'll need 20mm spacers for those iirc
The lad I got them off ran them on 10mm spacers
On RC's?
-
No CH Reps
-
No CH Reps
Do you have some CH reps?
-
Nope, But didnt know it would need 20mm spacers either
-
RC's are 7.5J,CH reps are 8J.
Assuming both are the offset the CH rep will have 6mm more clearance, you might get away with 15mm spacer if that's the case.
-
Cheers for that, I do have a pair of 5mm spacers & a pair of 20mm spacers that I was going to fit the other week,
If I use the 20mm ones what would I be best off putting on the rear?
-
Probably 25-30mm mate, before you jump the gun i'd trial fit the new calipers and discs and see what's what.
-
Cheers for that Patch,
Just found this on another forum
Got these brakes on my car, just changed to LMs but my RCs needed a 10mm spacer. MIGHT have got away with 5mm but not 100% sure
So hopefully they will be on this weekend
-

Got it up on the ramp & took wheels off to do a few things to it
looked like this once wheels were off
(http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c339/chris246/DSC_1265.jpg)
Discs & pads were in good condition & loads of life in them still.
Did what I had to do & dropped it back onto the floor, This is how it sits now
