Title: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 09 September 2010, 14:00
Kind of a commentable version of my project thread (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=91695.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=91695.0)) without all the tiresome detail. Mostly just piccies!

Edit: I was confused.

Looks alright. Shame about the jacking point. Plus with the coilovers on will look much better.

That is VERY tidy!

Not too sure about the smooth bumper though, something different I suppose!

Yeah I was umming and arring before I got it done but just kinda took a leap and went for it.

The badge area on the back has been smoothed over now after the car went to the body shop for the second time.

I've had a smooth bumper/grill/arches combo for years - I like it :)

Some serious picture whoreage of a machined and waxed Toast. All done by my long suffering OH at JSG Detailing:

All masked up pre polishing

Machine polished and waxed with Collinite 476 for extra durability.

Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 13 December 2010, 21:01
It's actually supposed to be Helios but he has had a respray so it may not be as close as it should be. However, it does do the classic purple, green and blue alternation in the sun.

Well I'm colour blind so that could be why. Its such a good exaple of a mk2 though.
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 13 December 2010, 21:19
Yeah it does look really blue in that light but as with both Helios and Royal it could all be down to the lighting. Goodness knows!

TBO "he" (I find that difficult because mine is a she!) looked amazing before the polish but damn he is looking fine (now I sound gay).

You can't take him outside now until the sun comes to play!
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 13 December 2010, 21:55
I know it's odd having a he car but he is just such a boy lol. 'she' wouldn't suit at all. He's also called Toast...  :undecided:

The plans are keep him running essentially.
The BBS RA's are getting resprayed to be the winter wheels, so they will be going on as soon as they're done and the RS's will be coming off to be machine polished back to mirror shine.

Will be looking at either getting ...joe to retrim the interior or [extreme sense of naivety] potentially giving it a go myself as I can dress make so I can't see it would be too hard.  :undecided: [/extreme sense of naivety].

Maybe entering him in to shows in the summer. Depends if I think he's ready to be honest.
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: SoundillusioN on 13 December 2010, 22:18
On the outside looks pretty ready to me!!

If you can dress make then it may be worth a go, you'll feel great if you pull it off and then you can do some others!

or just make us a dress.

Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 13 December 2010, 22:27
True but I am quite particular so the car has to be perfect before I'll let it go to a show lol.

Yeah I'll make you all dresses. Job done.

Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: lemski on 14 December 2010, 12:01
Hmmm its good that your gunna stitch or try to stitch your opwn seats. I'd be gettin someone else to do that to be honest. Good luck with it going to shows, exterier is definatly show worthy.
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 14 December 2010, 16:18
Well I know exactly what's going to happen, I shall attempt to do it, it will fail, I will turn up at ...joe's and inform him that it was like that when I got it so have no idea how it got so bad!

Tis a good plan I feel!
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: lemski on 14 December 2010, 18:22
I'd be doing the same. Be sayin it was like that when I got there. I rekons I'd not have the bottle to redo my seats. Its a bit of a scary prospect :/

Need special leather needles for your sewing machine is all.
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 15 December 2010, 13:41
Yeah that was my thought on it. Just get the proper needles and materials. Can use the old covers as a template and job done really... mebs...  :undecided:
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: Len on 15 December 2010, 13:44
Sounds easy dont it!
Done a bit myself but with vinyl (on another car) and found complex curves a right pain!
The other thing that would concern me is the piping!
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 15 December 2010, 13:52
Well with the piping, I would assume you'd get the pipe, wrap it in the material and feed it between the two pieces of material and sew them all together. That way you keep the template and the piping should be on the edges as it's supposed to be.

Ah well, we'll have to see how it goes lol. Wont be looking at doing it until the summer as dissertation takes priority unfortunately.

The old BBS have been refurbed and re-put back on to count as my winter wheelies, while the RS' are also refurbed.

As much as I love my RS' its for the best to run with these on for the now.

MOT time this week or next. With the amount of work that's been done to this car it should literally fly through...  :undecided:

Has been up in Leicester while the OH detailed it and whatnot. Also we've had builders here and I shudder to think of bricks being dropped on it. Out of sight out of mind lol.

Looking good on the RA's.  I used to have winter and summer wheels (ATS cups and steels), but realised I would have two sets of tyres getting perished before they wore out- so one set of RA's would do!
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 22 January 2011, 19:02
This is true, the only issue is that the chrome on the RS get absolutely fooked in winter with the salt on the roads. Not worth the effort of having to sort them out each year.
Title: Re: Katy's shed
Post by: xkaty_h on 16 April 2011, 21:26
Front got lowered a touch the other day, about 2 threads to level out the car, as well as the first clean after winter.

Dirt simply sheeted straight off. Degreased to shift road salt and then foamed twice to ensure it was literally as clean as possible before a nice gentle hand wash. Paint polished with gentle paint cleanser then another fresh coat of Collinite 476s. Nice and shiny for a meander around Fosse park the other day!
