Title: Reddy, mk3 :)
Post by: TalisaJade on 07 September 2010, 22:23
ive been told to do this bloody thing!! ahhh... another topic for u all to write SH!TE on ;) behave!! sorry about some of the pics, theyre off my bb so crappy quality, but will keep addin more as i go on, will try to keep em on the digi and not off the bb!! :) not so much done to Reddy as yet, just little things, needs a LOT more doin until im gona be happy!!

this is Reddy not long after i got him, all shined up and lookin lovely, with absolutely nothing done to him, except the kamei grill which my brother put on before he sold it to me
(http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab337/talisajadewilko/25803_392486091068_516336068_3846356_5656492_n.jpg)

few rusty bits which have been sorted now
(http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab337/talisajadewilko/25803_392486096068_516336068_3846357_5502087_n.jpg)

sh!tty tailgate which is rusty as fook, and ma brother pulled the boot handle off and stuck it back on with polyfiller, oh how clever, so got a new boot now just need to fit it, and have sprayed the vw badge black (not fitted yet EITHER)

haha.. my golfy stickers on my mirrors, good old ebay, gotta get some more cos got some sexy new wing mirrors, which havnt been fitted yet cos only just been  sprayed :)

alloys <3
(http://i877.photobucket.com/albums/ab337/talisajadewilko/58866_438015031068_516336068_4928946_4596489_n.jpg)

so thats really it for now, got a lot more things i wanna do to it but first need the tailgate and new mirrors put on... havin a complete set of new locks, being lowered, colour coded bumpers, smoked back lights, smoked fogs&indicators, smoked side indicators, angel eyes, pressed plates, would really love new seats but cant c it happenin really... and a few other bits & pieces :) will keep updatin as i go along!

If you can't stretch to leathers then standard Gti interior is a nice upgrade from standard seats and won't cost much at all. Just keep an eye on eBay and the classifieds on here until something local pops up

How long have you had the car? looks like you've got a fair bit done already! should look alot better once lowered :afro:

My gti seats were £30, but a bit scabby. You should look to pay about £50 for a good set. Keep an eye out for late spec cloth recaro front seats - luuuurrrvvvly!

Shame yours is a 3 door as I have a set of 5 door seats lying around.

crap pics again, as off my phone! really need to get proper camera out more!

check out the rust!! dear big bro : this is what happens when u pull your boot handle off and stick it back on with filler! ... dad cracked the numberplate gettin screws out of it, literally crumbled off from the actual boot but were stuck in numberplate... good job was gettin pressed plates anyway, cant really see the crack in the pics so will do for now...

new boot fitted, gonna leave it couple days & polish it up to be nice & shiny like the rest of poor Reddy!! no rust whatsoever :) so happy! sprayed the boot handle too, and the push bit... minus vw badge... gonna remove the golf cl bit, or spray it black not sure which yet...

complete wi black vw badge :)

LEFT TO DO > > > >

> buy new mirrors and sell the ones we bought new and sprayed red, as they DONT BLOODY FIT... because dad didnt check :/...
> pressed plates

> rear spoiler (only a teeny one)

Coming along nicely, and I like your plans

Grab a GTi spoiler and remove the bolts, then use sikaflex or tiger seal or the like to glue it on. If your color coding your mirrors I suggest you color code your spoiler. I have a genuine GTi spoiler in flash red lying around I think, if yours is flash red and I can find the spoiler, then its for sale :D

Cheapo coilovers will be ideal. £160ish off ebay. Make sure you get new top mounts (VR6 ones) when fitting them.

GTI rear lights are smoked and your can pick up smoked front blanks/indicators and side indicators cheap nowadays. Try eurowagens.com - also might be worth grabbing a VR6 front splitter from them too.

Only grab the GTI interior if its going cheap, I got mine off ebay for £5 too and its in very good condition!

I will see if I can find some piccies of my car when it was red so you can see the spoiler, etc. Your plans are similar to what my car looked like.
Title: Re: Reddy, mk3 :)
Post by: TalisaJade on 13 September 2010, 19:51
Thanks hun :)
Yeah was gonna glue it on,that's what other ppl have done,if its only small it will hold won't it... And as for the seats I keep lookin but not too bothered about seats just yet, unless I can pick up a set cheap!
Was gonna go really chavved up,lexus lights, angel eyes etc,but can't afford it really and the smoked ones make it look a bit meaner I think :)
Apart from paintwork I don't know what else to do with it,was gonna get roof n bonnet wrapped,a few lads on ere do it don't they, looks quite good!
And the coilovers bit... Was jus gonna get springs cos cheaper, and with it bein ma first project kinda thing n all that, but been on ebay an thers a set on ther for like 70quid brand new,but it says spring coilover kit,and says its adjustable so is that springs or coilovers? I don't understand it,dads gonna fit it but he's not sure what's what until he gets it??

Coilovers all the way, springs won't go low enough. If you buy springs, you will only end up buying coilovers later. With coilovers the height is adjustable, so you can set the height exactly how you want - preferably scraping the ground

Shame your so far away, as I do vinyl wraps for a living!

Post by: TalisaJade on 13 September 2010, 20:22
that is a bit of a shame as really fancy havin it done! how much do u do it for? just black on bonnet and roof...

just looked at those ones on ebay again but they for a 1.8 gti, only want em for standard 1.4 but they dont do em, have messaged the seller, as its a shop they do loadsa different ones, but all the others are 180+ so dont know why the 1.8 gti ones are only 70 plus p+p?! odd... dont wanna go too low though as its sittin on 17s... feels a bit dodgy drivin it, like the wheels r slippin, all have month old tyres on, mint tread, so dont know what it is, maybe its just cos of the size of the wheels?! or does it need trackin? i think it feels really strange to drive, slips all over the place, dad drove it and said it didnt feel much different, and that it might just be me gettin used to the wheels?! any help on that one?!

that car is mint, it quite similar to what i was thinkin, you shouldnt have put them on, i feel like im copyin u now, even though ive never seen it before, and my idea was my own!!! lol

All Mk2/Mk3 suspension is the same (same fitment). I can't stress enough that that you got to get coilovers!

Get your alignment checked and check your bushes.

Its cool, I know its your idea, I won't tell anyone your copying :D

New coilies coming soon Dan, then more lows!

so true mate, thought I'd only go for 40mm springs with my bora as I wasn't bothered about it bein as low as my previous cars just wanted it to handle well, but now I have ordered some coillies as can't be doin with the 4x4 ride height!

to be honest, i havnt... i wasnt going to at the beginning cos all i wanted was alloys, now its gone a bit further and the list is gettin longer... my insurance runs out end of nov so no point declaring them now as i wont b going with same company as its more expensive than last yr, even without mods, and with 1 years no claims and adding mum & dad as named drivers...
been on confused.com, added those 2 as drivers and added mods and its somethin like 820 (with bell), i put ALL the mods on that i could think of, and things that should be done before i renew it, and it still only came to 870 (with express insurance), so i think next time i will definately declare everything, im thinking it only goes up a whole lot with bigger things like engine changes, not silly things like a 30quid interior change?! i feel like such a good girl haha!

Thats not too bad but I ask because if something happened to the car, you hit someone else or anything that involved a claim they would most likely not cough up..  its a sore subject on here.

not being arsey being truthful - and at no point was it a slur on your driving.

for example,

 you park your car up,

 its hit,

you need to claim - even off A.N.Others policy

an assessor views your car,

mods not declared - they will just laugh at you and terminate you policy,

Insurance companies will do ANYTHING to get out of paying, and if you have a policy terminated - just wait til you try to get another policy  :lipsrsealed:

So the POINT IS - you have undeclared mods therefore you insurance is INVALID and worthless.

and worse case scenarios, someone walks out in front of your car, they are hurt, its not your fault, you did nothing wrong, they take you to court, you're fooked!

Someone crashes into your car because THEY can't drive, its THEIR fault, police come along, you're still fooked!

Yeah I know that now, insurance companies should just be more clear about this tho cos in all honesty I didn't know u had to declare silly things like havin new bumpers etc... Anddd have already said I'm definately declarin next time. Also, bcos u know more about it than me,I did my insurance on confused or whatever it is... Clicked all the relevant boxes and then it said I was only allowed to click 6boxes!? Is this just on the site,I assume u can have more than 6 lol!? X

I completely agree with Chuff.

Another scenario for you to ponder over, say when you had your blow out you didn't control it and went across 2 lanes of motorway causing a 4/5 car pile-up, all of the other people would be up sh!t creek because your insurance would be invalid meaning that they'd been hit by an uninsured driver. Having seen people try to resolve situations like this, I know it is absolute nightmare for all involved especaily those who have done no wrong and have fully legal insurance.

You might argue that this didn't happen (thankfully!), but can you see how easily something could happen even if you are, as you say, a good driver? An accident is called an accident for a reason, i'm sure nobody who crashes intends to do it. Not wishing to sound riteous, but I wouldn't even consider driving a car if I knew I wasn't fully legal, it's just not worth it.

Anyway, rant over

No, when I went across two lanes after the blow out,I was on edge of the road,every1 could c my hazards, just that another person about 20mins after I'd been sat waitin for recovery, rammed up the arse of sum1 else cos not payin attention, that isn't my fault! And I'm not sayin a brilliant driver but there's a lot of pricks on the road,I am not one of them!! 1.4 mk3 FTW

yeahh i knowww :/, really want a black mk2 gti though!! dont really like mk3s, but my first dub, and itll do for now, really wanted t get rid, but as u say, i know what works/doesnt work now, and will have to go through the same rubbish with the new one!! but while ive got this one, cheap insurance, can save for gti

1.4 mk3 ftL!!! :D

Black MK2 FTW!...... nah, stick your guns, make this into a nice motor enjoy it and by the time you're sick of it your GTI dream will hopefully become a reality

AARRHH, i remember the days when i had my 1.4 ryder,
spent nearly £2000 on it buying all the nice gti and vr6 bits for it.
Nice work, keep it up

£2000! u must be mad!! only paid £400 for it, and probably £300 for parts, so far :L dont wanna spend much more!!

It sort of just mounted up. I paid £900 for it. Leather and wheels came to £800, £200 for window tints, £180 for headlights, £60 for m3 rear lights, £30 for vr6 spoiler, £30 for badgeless grill, coilovers were £450 and carbon bonnet got cheap for £150, and all the little things aswel. Wish i didn't now, should of just got my VR6 highline in the first place and paided more for the insurance. But if you can do it on the cheap, even better, it doesn't need to be perfect cause its only a cheap car to start with. I would say get a GTI and swap all your goodies over. Job done.
(Pistt, u sellin your grill by any chance )
