My 91 16v has a serious problem with the clocks cluster. The rev counter is erratic and the warning lights flash randomly.
Took out the clocks to check and noticed there was a link on the circuit board ribbon that was burnt out, so i spliced in a wire to replace the link soldering to its original locations.
All was well untill this morning when problems started again, so i removed the clocks once more to find another burnt link. Again ive spliced a wire in but the clocks seem to have lost the MFA functions, and still flicker the dash lights.
Has anyone had anything like this before?, Or know anyone who could sort them out? I realise that second hand replacements for a one plug 16v will be nigh on impossible to find, and if i do i dont want them to burn out straight away if the faults with the car wiring.
Prior to this they have been fine, and ive checked earths, connections and the alternator out put!

Mine went and I had to get new clocks...
They come up on ebay all the time..
You can also swap your clock and other parts over as long as they are the same make VDO or Motometer...
RJ also suggested to check the two earths from the engine block.... Have you Tried pulling the fuse to reset it??

If the tracks behind the clocks are burnt out, I would suspect a short of some sort. A bad earth might cause the erratic problems you mentioned, but it should not cause a track to burn out!
