Title: MKV has been good..but time to move on!
Post by: Hurdy on 05 September 2010, 10:51
Well, I've spend a marvellous three and a half years on here and with my MKV Edition 30 and it has been great. Everyone (maybe with one or two exceptions!) has been brilliant and the new friends and guys I've met throughout my internship as a moderator on here have been worth every minute.

Some say ban me for my new car decision , but after excellent customer service and a good test drive I've gone all Japanese on myself. I needed a more sedate car for the road to appease my better half , so I can go out and get a nutjob track car at some point and so I have one of these coming in the next two weeks.

Lexus IS F Sport
Brand spanking new
Every single option ticked.
Good cruiser in metallic Cadoxton slate grey
Not quite as fast as the Golf, but that is the idea.

Current car is still for sale for £13995 OVNO. Details below.

Wouldn't be my choice but I'm sure it's a good car.

I think you should buy a MKII GTI and join us trackday lot and keep it dub. Might feel a bit slow after the monster though

Possibly Nick, I'm looking at Caterhams and Lotus's at the moment. £20k ish budget, so what do you recommend?

If I had 20K? Blimey. I'm a bit of a tin top fan so I'd probably be looking at something like an M3 or RS4. Lotus's handle well but they never seem to be that quick on the trackdays I've been on.

I don't suppose Ariel Atoms come in at that price bracket.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this.. but a race prepped spec C S202 impreza will p!ss all over anything mentioned so far. (just ask the caterham/exige/ultima drivers who got left for dust a couple of weeks ago... at cadwell of all places  )
After the ED30 i'm sure you'll want a race car rather than a track day car and it can be done within your budget quite easily.

if i had a spare 7k i'd snap that up in an instant, that is stupidly cheap for an S202. Pretty much a rally car in road trim.

around them, in them, building them.. and extinguishing the fires on them  I'd never have one as a daily, i'm VW till i die.. but as a track weapon there isn't much that comes close unless you have 100k to spend.

Hurdy, have you bought an IS F Sport or the mental M3 slaying IS F?

Can't believe you got that one past the wife as a cruiser, unless she likes cruising sideways at 170mph

Yeah it was funny

One of my workmates went to his local Balti restaurant recently and the guy who owned it was an avid forum member and ended up talking to my mate and giving him a free £20 meal. Small world syndrome again FTW

Get this one.....

The new bone stock standard 2.5 Lexus actually costs £53 more in insurance over the next 9 months than my Uber modified, nitroused Edition 30 did with all it's mods - how's that work out right?

All the other insurance companies I've gone to have the Lexus at up to £190 a year cheaper

I take it you will be sticking around here :)

We all have to move on though. Id have never in a million years guessed IS-F. Didn't fancy an M3 or RS4?

I'll still be around

The Lexus IS F-Sport isn't the V8 5.0ltr, it is the V6 2.5ltr. It's a cruiser not a bruiser. If I'd been spending £50k upwards for a road car it would have been a new Jaguar XJ.
