Help guys!
Jumped in the car this morning to go to work and it wouldn't start.
The dash lights up, central locking still works, fan works. When I turn the key I hear a a loud click (starter solenoid?) but it doesn't do anything, not even try to turn over.
When I turn the key the voltmeter on the dash goes up but doesn't go over 10volts.
Would that suggest it's a dead battery ?
The engine is the 1.8 20v non-turbo, in a T-reg Audi A4 (but the same engine as the Mk4 Golf) with 140k on the clock.
Oddly I did about 150miles just last night without a problem.
Any ideas ?
cheers

Sounds like the battery, maybe the boot light stuck on and drained it overnight.

Well the battery was totally drained when I got back from work. There's no juice to open the central locking or turn on any of the dash lights and now nothing happens when you put the key in the ignition and turn.
So yeah, I'm thinking the battery is gone.
Just been to the local parts shop, got a battery and will fit it shortly.

i would have said its the starter..

Battery fitted and now running fine.
The old battery was lower power than the new one, so I think the old one had just died sooner that it should have.
