hi there, just new to this forum.  Just smashed up my vtr and am looking to buy a mk 2 16valve.  Can anyone give me a few clued what to look out for when looking for a tidy one.  Also does anyone know any specialist dealers in the midlands that might have a good one?  Finally, i have already bought ats cup wheels off a friend for it and am looking to know wether its worth putting extra money into 195/45 15 or are 195/50 15 any better.  cheers

firstly well done for removing another sh!tty saxo from our roads.  :grin:

best bet is to get a copy of the VW mags, The Golf+ and PVW and have a look in the back of there. Also there are a number of websites with cars for sale like this one. The good thing about us dubbers is we don't put lairy 'jap' style bodykits on that hardly fit and 19" wheels on small cars. Most of the golfs will have been looked after.

running 45 profile tyres will make your speedo read wrong, but some people will argue they look and perform better. personally if I was running 15's again I'd have another set of 195/50's as they worked well last time.

Try your local autotrader, there may be one waiting for you in this weeks edition, thats where i got my mk2 from :D

cheers. im thinking of putting spax suspension kit in and dropping about 40 mm.  will that effect what tyres to have or will 50's still be ok.  Have had bad expeiance with rubbing tyres before and just want to make sure i get it right this time

Alot would depend on what width & offset your cups are m8 as to whether u run 50's or 45's

you shouldn't have too many problems with dropping it 40mm, i had 7 inch wheels and lwered about that first time round and had no rubbing whatsoever. but like the others said it may make a difference depending on what offset your running. what did the wheels come off? if they were from another vw chances are they'll be fine.

yea, they are off a golf.  so then a 40mm drop on to 195/50 15 sould be ok.  Definately save me money rather than going for the 45s :smiley:

yeah i use 195/50/15 on my bbs and probably something similar on my sebrings. no worries with what you've got.
